Needing a restroom no reason for speeding, judge says

EASTVILLE, Va. — A woman who told a judge she was speeding toward a restroom after being clocked at 92 mph on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel couldn't persuade him of the urgency of her needs.

On Tuesday in Northampton County Circuit Court, Judge W. Revell Lewis III found Cinthya Rivas, 31, of New York City guilty of reckless driving in the Jan. 10 incident. The speed limit on the 17.6-mile toll bridge is posted at 55 mph.

When bridge-tunnel police stopped her, Rivas gave no reason why she was speeding. But in court, she said she was menstruating, needed a restroom immediately and was heading toward a stop several miles north that was indicated on her GPS.

  1. Isn't there a bathroom on the bridge? Regardless 92 is way to fast for any road let alone the bridge tunnel!

  2. There is a bathroom at the gift shop and it would have been the first tunnel heading north. Good call on the bs judge

  3. Nice try, but that excuse has to be played while the officer is writing the ticket. She heard about the ruse too late. As she found out, you can't make up the excuse later. $600.00, well deserved. She was reckless and endangered lives. Reckless driving is a lot of points, way more than speeding. Many would call her the typical NY, out-of-state, driver. They blow through the rt 13 bypass all the time.

  4. She says she's never coming "back here. I had a bad experience."

    1. Glad no one else had a bad experience (like a serious accident) because of her stupidity:

    2. Highly doubtful anyone will miss her and her outlandish behavior. Her absence will be a huge favor to everyone.

  5. Bathroom is on the bridge and there is a WAWA right before you get on the north bound side of bridge. She is full of it. 92 mph is dangerous.

  8. The tunnel should offer adult diapers to drivers.

  10. If she had to go that bad she should've stopped before she went through the toll booth. Lots of places in the Tidewater area. She obviously lied.
