An Enterprise Rent-A-Car subsidiary is being sued for race-based discrimination by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Enterprise RAC of Baltimore, LLC, a federal contractor, was targeted for a compliance review by the department. That found that the company engaged in racially discriminatory hiring practices and failed to maintain personnel and employment records pursuant to an executive order. They found that African-American and white job applicants were not treated equally, and black applicants were more likely to be rejected in initial screening and after the first interview. The department claims those practices are ongoing.
“All workers deserve a fair shot at equal employment opportunities and advancement,” Patricia A. Shiu, director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, said in a statement. “Our action against Enterprise highlights our commitment to combating discrimination against qualified workers."
The government is asking an administrative law judge to order Enterprise to stop violating the executive order and the office's regulations, and to require them to provide relief to aggrieved African-American job applicants.

Does this mean Enterprise should hire all black applicants?
ReplyDeleteNo, it just means that they should be fair...reread the article.
Delete@3:47 if that's all you got from this story, you are part of the problem.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone rented from a local enterprise? I have! Incompetent an ignorant. Wont go back. All blacks all three times I've been!
ReplyDeleteThey should have been reported to management.
DeleteAnother government bureaucracy is nosing their snots into business. Government just doesn't learn that doing this, encourages business to just close up shop. They're like gnats swarming around a dead caucus. They pick and pick and pick until finally there's nothing left. Yet, we sit around wondering, "Where did all the jobs go?"
ReplyDeleteWhen you vote for bureaucracy remember, elections have consequences - especially over the last 7-1/2 years. Those consequences aren't always ducky with the real world either.
@4:07 yeah...how dare they ensure that people aren't discriminated against...
ReplyDelete410 Sorry to burst your "everyone is against the black man" mentality but Affirmative Action has been the worst thing the government has exacted on the black community. If you really think it through rather than rely on some knee-jerk, PC meme, you'd see this very clearly.
ReplyDeleteJobs should be given to a person based on merit and skill set, not because of the color of a person's skin.
Agreed 4:14. Enterprise clearly does not do that. At least in Salisbury. I have rented from them for many years and have seen many employees come and go. The "affirmative action" employees can't do or keep the job, but they keep on hiring black employees because the government says they have to.
ReplyDeleteThis is a sham by our government.
513 Then vote out bureaucracy!
ReplyDeleteIt's this simple if the business doesn't want to hire a certain type of person who cares? if the business fails or prospers that would verify their decision. For all the PC wimps it is still true that the cream rises to the top. For this example the cream doesn't have a color.
ReplyDeleteBusiness owners are forced to do this. Own a company and bid on a government job. Mist have certain percentage of non white employee to qualify to even get the job! I have to lay off good workers and hire crap! Many times going to best temps to find a crap worker who actually shows up to collect his pay check. Cant say they work because they're worthless and stupid. I hate to say it but in my experience it's the truth. 43 yrs in business an I've had maybe four non white employees who were not only smart but wanted to use their smarts to learn and progress into leadership positions. The rest happy to be laborers who lay out of work and do nothing more than complain, stirring problems when at work.
ReplyDeleteQuota's will destroy everything...ha, same goes for entitlements....haha this includes the ME generation too..
ReplyDeleteGonna be a fun next 4 years!
All that should matter is who can do the job. If you are goofing off and not doing what you are suppose they should fire you.
