ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Maryland is criticizing Donald Trump’s comments about a Latino judge who is overseeing a lawsuit involving Trump University.
Del. Kathy Szeliga (shuh-LEG-uh) wrote on her Facebook page Monday that Trump’s comment about U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel “is insulting to all Americans.”
Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, has said Curiel’s Mexican heritage means he cannot ensure a fair trial, because Trump wants to build a border wall to keep people from illegally entering the United States. Trump University is accused in two lawsuits of fleecing students with unfulfilled promises to teach them secrets of success in real estate. Trump denies the allegations.
Szeliga writes that saying anyone’s ethnic background should disqualify them from public service “is, by definition, a racist statement.”

So, how come we tolerated a black or even Hispanic caucus in Congress? They are racist by definition.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think I voted for this idiot.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that she stood up for the right thing to do
ReplyDeleteHis statement is getting taken out of context. Trump was talking not about his Mexicaness(I know its not a word) but his association with the lawyer group. That lawyer group has had donations from the Clintons.
ReplyDeleteKathy Szeliga just lost my vote!! If you had a brain you would have jumped on that Trump Train. Stupid idiot, yes you Kathy and I have been to your meet and greets here in Salisbury.
ReplyDeleteFor the first time in my life I am going to vote for a Democrat. You are resorting to a low level to win over Democrat votes and now you just lost mine.
This is another reason why we shouldn't vote for female candidates. They are weak and they can't think fort themselves.
SHE Lost my vote too. The Judge Trump is referring too is a member of the Hispanic group La Raza or "the race" which is a RACIST ORGANIZATION. She knows this, everyone with an IQ over 90 knows, yet she is promoting the lie.
ReplyDeleteIf you read what Trump is saying, the Judge is a member of a racist organization, La Raza, and is supported and paid for by the Clinton Foundation, which is a money laundering scheme to raise funds for the Democratic Party.
ReplyDeleteAndy Harris, can you please straighten this idiot out, or is she really that far beyond salvation?

She is sucking up for the Liberal voters.
Heck Newt Gingrich and Michael Steele have been bashing Trump on this. They are now on my Sh!t list. Michael Steele spends to much time on MSNBC to be a conservative.
Kathy if you are going to act like a Democrat and not support our presumptive candidate for the Republican Party then I too may as well vote for the Democrat. Sorry my friend, you lost!

ReplyDeleteIt was prudent of her to make the remark. It puts her on record as favoring qualifications over some demographic factor when we vote for candidates or when people are appointed to public positions. We should all support that view.
It insulates her from any backlash about Mr. Trump's comment, which, surprise, surprise, is being taken out of context.
Previous posters, please re-think your comments about voting for Kathy's opponent. He's Babs without the skirt. Not what we really want!
5:21, supporting La Raza is a good thing for her to do?
ReplyDeleteI mean, WOW is not enough to describe your comment!
Women are WEAK candidates. Just don't expect more.
ReplyDelete1:30and4:58,right on what's with these politicians that misinterpret everything Mr Trump says do they think political gain of some kind?

ReplyDelete7:21, this is 5:21.
You misinterpreted my comment. Kathy didn't claim to support LaRaza; she distanced herself from Trump's comment. This will be yesterday's news before tomorrow. She's a solid Republican, or you're free to support the known quantity that is her opponent.
IIRC, Trump tried to cast doubt on his ability to get a fair hearing in the case because the judge is a member of a closed club focused on Hispanic race issues, and he (Trump) said he'd made comments that might be misinterpreted about the flood of illegals. And apparently the judge has contributed to Mrs. Bill Clinton's campaign.
By putting the judge in the spotlight I think Trump hopes to increase the chances for a hearing on the merits rather than on the media spin or the judge's biases.
Kathy's move was smart. Otherwise Washington Post and Balt Sun would be casting aspersions on her because of something she had no direct tie to.
Use your vote wisely,
Now very sorry I voted for her in the Primary Election. Won't be voting for her in the General Election. Sounds like just another liberal.
ReplyDeleteAnother political hack bites the dust. All support she may have received from me will never happen now that she's shown her lunacy.
ReplyDeleteKathy, it's true, here in Maryland a Republican must appeal to "dumbocrats" in order to have a chance to win, but not at the expense of your base! When you do you are viewed as a R. I. N.O., immediately losing the support of your base. Sorry Kathy, unless you can fix this error in judgment, you will lose the general election.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I do not like how she is handling this the alternative Chris Van Hollen is 100% worse. Read his bio. See where he was born and raised. See how he has voted in the past and who backs him.
ReplyDeletewell, she's wrong! Mr. Trump is absolutely correct.
