Trump to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at Huge Biker Rally

Donald Trump is planning a Memorial Day weekend visit with one of his favorite constituencies: bikers.

As motorcyclists stream into the nation's capital for Rolling Thunder, their largest annual gathering, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee is planning an appearance on Sunday, campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said.

"I am doing it in honor of the great bikers who have been totally supportive of my campaign and now I want to be supportive of them," Trump said in a statement to Bloomberg Politics. "I look forward to it!"

The bike rally, called the "First Amendment Demonstration Run," begins at noon Eastern time on Sunday, starting at the North Pentagon parking lot and circling the National Mall.

At Trump rallies, motorcycle enthusiasts frequently line the entrances to show their support as protesters do the opposite just steps away. A central part of his appeal to them: a shared belief that self-interested politicians are degrading the military, ignoring veterans and running “a sad government,” as a letter about this weekend’s ride published in December by Rolling Thunder organizers said.

  1. It's about time someone that plans on running this country supports those that get in the trenches and do all the dirty work

  5. @10:51 you obviously have never been involved in such an event. This ride is made up of veterans from all branches of service and people that believe of what this country once stood for. If you see any so called "outlaw" biker activity or "crank" use it must be in your inner circles

  6. 10:51, If you define "outlaw biker" as a person who does not sit idley by and watch our freedoms become more eroded than they already are, someone who is willing to stand up for what they believe in even when it means they will be looked down on and discriminated against because they choose to ride a motorcycle. I suspect this is not the case from your comment, if I am wrong please accept my apology. The term "outlaw biker" is offensive to all of us who know the true measure of Brotherhood that is the motorcyclist community that I ride in. Linda Wainer

  7. They aren't "outlaw bikers." They are a gathering of people from all kinds of different clubs scattered throughout the US. We have friends in the Northern VA who belong to such a club and they spend many a nice days taking rides in the VA mountains just to visit a park or a restaurant. All are successful productive members of society. Some of the clubs are for members of LE like the Blue Knights or the FD like the Red Knights. "Outlaw bikers" don't attend such gatherings like this.
