These blubbering idiots are aiming too low. They already have a fire boat they don't use, why get a lousy Humvee that they won't use? NASA has some great Space Shuttles that can probably can be had for free. Salisbury can't use them either but imagine the selfies that Government reps will be able to take.
"...SPD does not have a vehicle with this capability...."
This little town (and yeah, its still a little town) doesn't have a f'ing tank either, which also would fit all of the other "Whereas's". Is THAT next? We don't have a submersible or a flame throwing Humvee or a high energy microwave device for crowd control? Still good on the "whereas's".... And how in the heck does a four-wheel drive ARMORED vehicle get valued LESS than a used car? Oh yeah. The "...in the best interest of public safety." part was REALLY Orwellian. PUBLIC safety? Really? They HAD to put that in there, didn't they? You know, having a military grade armored vehicle (easily upgraded to carry a .50 cal at no extra charge!) is SO necessary to "protecting" us. We should have got that YEARS ago. We should get a head start on that microwave thing.... Do taxes go up now to keep that thing in good repair? And what is the rate for INSURING it? I see sidewalks that can barely be called that. Roads in town with 5" deep potholes. Weeds 3 feet tall on city property. City property being sold for the lowest low-ball offer (big cash just kissed off). No action on THOSE things, which citizens use every day, but there is 10 grand (that's only the beginning, you know) just laying around for something that MAY get used, how often? Keep cheering.
EVERY individual I have ever met on the Eastern Shore is TOO stupid to recognize the difference between PURCHASE cost vs. MAINTENANCE cost. County, State, Town (i.e., Ocean City) is no different. All they know is that they need to raise taxes to support something that they got for FREE.

ReplyDeleteTrust me. I work for OC.
Where are they keeping the fire blimp that the government gave them?
ReplyDeleteThe unit in question is no Humvee. It looks like a mail truck converted. Its a waste, unless there is a pizza warming oven onboard.
