Period Policy: Paid days off for women during their period?

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -We might be seeing the beginning of a new attitude regarding women and the menstrual cycle.

While many, especially in the workplace see the topic as taboo one company is trying to change that by offering extra time off once a month.

This is called a 'Period Policy,' and as you can imagine not only is it raising eyebrows, it’s raising some very mixed reaction from all kinds of people.

  1. Oh for Christsake this is unreal. Like my Mother told me many many years ago, you are a female; it's a fact of life; every month it is going to happen; you are not dying, and do not use it as an excuse to get out of doing anything, you are just as capable at that time of the month as any other time, so carry on; you want to go outside and run and jump or ride your bike or play ball, go do it.

  2. Another place where the income inequality gap is fostered....

With something like this - it will cost an employer more to hire and keep females on payroll - while they bitch about not getting paid as much.

Time off is very expensive to a company - think about it...you're paying someone and getting no income from their services. Employers are more willing to give their employees a raise than an extra week of vacation - they can demand higher levels of performance by associating it to a pay raise.

Meanwhile, this discriminates against all men - well, except for the fruit-loops like Jenner...but he's not a real man any more!

  5. I am a woman and the only way I would think this would be acceptable is if there are other medical conditions which cause that time to be exceptionally painful. Otherwise, suck it up. And yes, I'm a woman.

  6. I have horrible periods. And I feel better when I am up and moving around. I even work out longer to help. Just an excuse to be lazy.

  7. As a female, I think this is stupid. If it's that bad, use your earned PTO for it. Including short-term disability justified by a doctor. Women do face more biological challenges then men as we age due to reproductive functions. However, they've never stopped women from working .... In a field, office or as a parent. Younger female generations who appear to need kid gloves in the real world should be careful what they whine for. You could negate all the hard work and sacrifices your ancestors fought to get you by using your gender as an excuse.

  8. So I guess the next step will be to figure out a way to be considered disabled by your period so we can send out more checks...
