Ocean City Police Continue to Investigate Fatal Collision

Ocean City, Maryland – (May 20, 2016): Ocean City police officers are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred yesterday, May 19, 2016. The motorcycle driver, Eric Del Marr, 24, of Germantown, MD, was traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of 28th Street and Philadelphia Avenue when he collided with a pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old male of North Beach, MD.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) officer attempted to stop the motorcycle after witnessing Del Marr conduct a “wheelie” at a high rate of speed. The MDTA officer witnessed the traffic violation minutes before the collision while traveling northbound in the approximate area of 45th Street and Coastal Highway. Del Marr then made a U-turn on Coastal Highway at 56th Street, travelling southbound. The motorcycle fled from the officer, at which time the officer did not pursue the vehicle and lost sight of the driver.

Other police units observed Del Marr as he travelled southbound and reported his location via police radio. It was later determined that from 56th Street, Del Marr travelled southbound on Coastal Highway until 33rd Street where he turned west then eventually reentered southbound Coastal Highway at 32nd Street. Del Marr then made a U-turn at 23rd Street and travelled northbound at a high rate of speed.

At approximately 12:08 p.m., Del Marr collided with a Ford F-350 pickup truck that was attempting to turn east onto 28th Street. Del Marr was deceased upon arrival of first responders. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Ocean City’s Traffic Safety Unit, Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division are continuing to investigate the collision, which will likely take weeks to complete. Further updates will be provided pending completion of the investigation.

Ocean City police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Pfc. Ryan Flanagan at rflanagan@oceancitymd.gov or 410-520-5340.

  3. Since Wednesday there has been a large display of law enforcement officials in OC. State, OC and even sheriff marked SUVs all over OC trying to keep the youngins in check. Youngins is a understatement since the majority of cruisers are gray beards with full/packed wallets. The youngins are the minority, but are the majority for causing hijinx. OC started charging for trailers on the roads this year. $50 bucks...and who has trailers? Gray beards... THurs Friday had the best weather, with Saturday going to be rainy and most hijinx will not be around. Prayers to the family for this tragic lost of life - REGARDSLESS of the record. A lost life impacts many many folks for many many years.
