WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Wouldn't it be nice if your speed camera tickets were taken care of? For most, that's just a fantasy. But, not if you're a Montgomery County Police officer.
A 7 ON YOUR SIDE I-Team investigation discovered on-duty cops are getting their speed camera fines dismissed or reduced.
Louis Wilen, like most drivers, hates getting speed camera tickets.
"I don't entirely trust the speed camera system," stated Wilen, whose skepticism was only furthered at a recent traffic court hearing he attended in Montgomery County.
As Wilen waited in court to fight his ticket, he watched a man get the violations of four police officers quickly dismissed. The officers were not in court. At the time of the ticket, the man admitted they were not on a call. 7 ON YOUR SIDE obtained that day's court audio. Here's what happened.

Dave T: Typical. Cops speed, it's not problem. Regular people speed, it's a major crime. In my opinion, speeding tickets have become like DUI's, they're more about the business side of profiting from peoples mistakes than about maintaining law and order. I've experienced several incidents where real police help was needed, and it was worthless around here. But, go 5 mph over the speed limit and it becomes a serious matter. Seems like truth and justice today can only be found at the bottom of a bottomless pit.
ReplyDeleteIt's called a "Perk" of the job. I speed all the time, in every state, and just show my badge.
ReplyDeleteIf you received a citation for the major crime of going 5 miles over the speed limit prove it. Post an image of your citation (with your personal information blurred out) or post the citation number. I seriously doubt you're being honest about that. If DUI enforcement is just about making a profit, please explain why the last DUI arrest I had that went to court resulted in the suspect receiving a 1.5 year sentence. Not why I had hoped he would get but he'll still have another 1.5 years hanging over his head when he gets out of jail. And what would you do to improve DUI enforcement so it's not all about profit. Also I don't know too many good honest people that have been involved in SEVERAL incidents involving a need for police assistance. If the LEOS involved were worthless name them and their agency. If they (cops) were truly worthless and these were serous incidents what was the case number for these incidents? I feel if you are going to make serious accusations like this you should be able to back it up with facts, other wise your claims are just a bunch of BS and hot air.

G Jones. You punk cop! Can't wait till your chip gets knocked off your shoulder! Your a disgrace to the uniform. Even your Cop buddies can't stand you.
DeleteNot surprised; same concept occurs with cell use during driving. I've seen at least three cops driving and using their cell phone in the past year. Do what I say not what I do...Amirite?
ReplyDeletebut they train for that
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm trained for it to
ReplyDeleteFruitland has more speed camera's than Salisbury
ReplyDeleteFruitland also has 3 schools in the city limits.
ReplyDeleteThings in this country such as that make me think of the Russian Politburo of the cold war...Do as we say, not as we do...a two tier system, the haves and the have not ! Justice seems to be wearing an eye patch these days !
ReplyDeleteso you made your career by pulling people over and looking for drunks? show your papers? and meanwhile how many times have you actually been in need of assistance from your fellow officers? didn't think so nothing to life threatening I presume. no sense in putting oneself in harms way doing your job! you're the kind of kops I despise! thugs drugs illegals everywhere but they cant dont generate revenue do they?
