BALTIMORE — Some Baltimore City school employees are about to lose their jobs.
The district wouldn’t say Friday how many workers are being forced out. Officials said the cash-strapped school system does not have enough money to balance the budget.
Tammy Turner, the acting schools CEO, sent a letter that read, in part, "I cannot express how difficult this decision is for me and everyone involved, because we know it will result in the loss of talented, committed employees."
Marietta English, the president of the Baltimore Teacher's Union, said the news caught her off guard.
"No one has said anything to me about we are going to have a reduction of force," English said.

Sounds like a lot of custodial workers will be on the streets soon. With the deficit being $20M though, one must consider that the Mayor gave 1/3 of that away to the Gray family.
ReplyDeleteBalance the budget and move on.
ReplyDeleteSimple.
Tammy Turner, acting schools CEO - said the cuts will result in loss of talented committed employees?
ReplyDeleteI beg her pardon - what in the heck does she expect - the Baltimore school system receives $15,000 per pupil (highest in the State) and yet their assessment scores are one of the lowest in the State.
I say shut the entire institution down. Better yet - why don't you just let the thugs burn it down along with the rest of the 60+ buildings they residents burned this past fall - after Freddy Gray. As you can tell - there is no love lost on our side of the bay. I can hear them now - 'I need some more MONEY'!!
Hahaha! !! Nobody wants to teach the animals! !!! They weren't teachers in the first place. Uneducated certificate given from GOD knows where. BABYSITTING AT BEST!!!
ReplyDeleteAt about $15,000 per student per year, this seems hard to believe.
ReplyDeleteNot to worry; our state politicians will just take more money from the rest of the state and give it to Baltimore to psssss away..
