All student loan debt could be eliminated.
The F-35 project has been one of the most expensive military projects in history, and will cost upwards of $1.45 trillion by the time it’s over. No, that was not a typo. The project price is trillion with a T. What’s more, it’s not even ready for service yet, and it’s already cost $400 billion, according to the Government Accountability Office, which is twice what it was supposed to have cost by now.
The planes are definitely cool, if you’re into such things—stealth, fast, sleek—but it’s not even that good by military standards, a think tank reported last year, and not worth the $135 million cost per plane, of which the U.S. stands to order 2,443. In fact the Congressional Budget Officerecommended that updating the stalwart F/A-18 and the F-16 planes would be sufficient—a move that could save around $48.5 billion.
The project was back in the news again last week, as the Senate Armed Forces Committee heard testimony. It didn’t go well: Sen. John McCain (R.-AZ), a Navy veteran, blasted the project as a “scandal and a tragedywith respect to cost, schedule, and performance.”
While some officials were optimistic about the project, Christopher Mimms of the Wall Street Journal fired off a tweet that noted that the plane’s projected opportunity cost (through will be 2038) could have provided 20 years of free college for every student in the U.S.

SPD to get new cars AGAIN ? WTF
ReplyDeleteBut not all student debt EVER,which is what would be required vs only current or recent graduates.
ReplyDeleteIf you add in (or subtract) the fact that the chinese have already stolen a lot of the technology used in this aircraft, it is a VERY bad deal.
ReplyDeleteOf course, the Clintons have been very instrumental over the years in rewarding the chinese with all of our technology that they want.. up to and including the most sensitive missile guidance systems.
when we need it you wont be crying about the price tag. story before this was about a man using food stamps. how would you like your money spent? protecting our way of life or giving it out to freeloaders?
ReplyDeleteStudent debt? My children incurred none because I planned it and funded it like my parents. So what do they get out of this? Bernie sent this in I'm sure.
ReplyDelete1:07, BS! LIBERAL BS.
ReplyDelete1:51, You're just an Idiot.
It's been flying for TEN YEARS and still does not work.
ReplyDeleteLet's spend more money on it for another ten?
Having a bad day Joe? I think that 1:07 is trying to say that the money is better spent on jets rather than SNAP.
ReplyDelete1:51 Did what should be done by all parents. Sacrifice and save money to pay for college so your children don't have student debt.
Is it really you posting this or one of your minions?
I have to agree with 1:51...paying off student debt is just wrong. Just because somebody makes a bad decision doesn't mean everybody has to pay for it. How about better medical for our veterans, better pay for field soldiers, taking care of our elderly, etc, etc,...the list goes on.
ReplyDeleteEver hear of the Appropriations Committee?
ReplyDeleteDemocrats AND Republicans.
Taking bribes, kickbacks, payoffs. To continue to fund a military-industrial boondoggle with no end in sight.
Does anyone think another POLITICIAN (wipe the puke off your lips now) is going to "change" that system??
You're freaking out over EBT buyers getting $100 worth of crabs and in the meantime, "your guy" is handing BILLIONS of our tax dollars to corporate pirates. EVERYONE (except Haliburton, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin) says this spending is a scandal, but your "leaders" keep throwing BILLIONS at it.
And you think bribery and payoffs aren't happening?
Stevie Wonder can see it and you can't???
Keep cheering.
