Life-Saving Drug Narcan Helping To Fight Heroin Deaths In Md

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Faced with an alarming increase in heroin and pain pill deaths, Maryland is now allowing abusers, their families and friends to have Narcan on hand.

Long stocked in ERs, ambulances and doctors’ offices, it can reverse an overdose in minutes.

Lifeless with barely a pulse, Liz overdosed on heroin. Her friends called for help. Once medics arrived, the power of Narcan saved her life. Within minutes of the injection, Liz was awake and actually talking.

“Before this medicine was invented, I would not have made it back from that,” she said.

  4. I am mixed on this. Seems we are allowing the junkies a get out of jail card with this. One part of me says let them go and we are better off and so are they.

  5. 7:55 you are entitled to your opinion but I wonder how you would react if it was your son, daughter, brother, sister, mother, father, aunt, uncle, cousin. Would you helplessly watch with the thought in your head that the world is better off? I'm not trying to come off as this being a personal blast on you just trying to get you to reflect. Are you sure you are ok with that thought because anyone in your family could easily get in a car accident and later result in being an addict from treatment, one could get cancer and easily result in becoming an addict from cancer treatment. Most addicts arent just someone who walked off the street and said oh i want to go get high, its a slow slow progression. Sure its easy to paint them into a corner and label them as "less than human" as labels like to do but you are talking about human life here. Again you are entitled to whatever opinion you want but having and being ok with preventable human life loss really is no different than being ok with killing someone. Has humanity regressed that far? Sometimes i feel it has. Ive had addicts steal from me ive had addicts be violent towards me but that demon they chase is something you need to fully understand before you rush to a judgement on a human life.
