HUD’s Proposed RV Rule Causes an Uproar as RV Sales Hit 39-Year High

(CNSNews) – In February, as sales of recreational vehicles (RVs) hit a 39-year high with 35,929 units sold, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) published a proposed rule in The Federal Register to revise the definition of an RV as “designed only for recreational use and not as a primary residence or for permanent occupancy.”

The proposal garnered praise from the RV industry, which has been pushing for clarification of the regulations for the past decade.

But it has angered thousands of RV and tiny house on wheels (THOWs) enthusiasts.

Both RVs and THOWs are currently exempt from HUD’s Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards for mobile homes designed as primary residences that were developed by the National Fire Protection Association and the American National Standards Institute.

However, according to HUD, some park model recreational vehicles (PMRVs) – defined as being between 320 and 400 square feet – “are being produced with patio roofs, screened in porches, and other extensions that exceed the 400 square foot maximum exemption in the current regulations…[and] marketed as suitable for year round living.”

The proposed rule would “modify the current exemption for recreational vehicles” and re-define an RV as “a factory-built vehicular structure, not certified as a manufactured home, designed only for recreational use and not as a primary residence or for permanent occupancy.”

  1. Those who lost their permanent homes in the crash need somewhere to live. What are you going to do, arrest everybody?

  2. It just keeps on going and going and going, like that battery bunny. The establishment government simply cannot keep it's greasy anti-freedom tentacles out of our way-of-life. It's sickening and treasonous to boot. When will it stop? Only when everyone is a slave, just like the slaves of yesteryear yet it won't be just the black race, it will be the entirety of humanity.

  4. 11:23 We "Gypsies" still to this and now just like in the old days we get harassed for it. It's custom in gypsy areas like Hagerstown and over in Cecil county to park your camper on your folkies (gypsy word for relatives) property while working on jobs in the area and if the muskers (gypsy word for the law) sees it they don't want it happening and will make you leave! They say the property is only zoned for one permanent family and if you stay more than so many days you are considered permanent! Gypsies aren't ever permanent because they go to the work stay in campers then go to where their houses are for awhile. It happens in WV, TN, and NC too!

  5. The gypsies still exist in Europe, 11:23. I used to see them sometimes in Germany. They would camp nearby and sell baskets of various types (pretty nice ones, actually). But a lot of stuff would disappear from our gardens..

  6. 3:52 There are over a million Romani (gypsies) over the age of 18 in the USA also. Quite a few right here in the Salisbury area even. If you want to see some good gypsy videos Google bobbydo7777 youtube and watch some of his videos of real gypsy weddings and other occasions gypsies celebrate. Also loverstevens on youtube has put together some great gypsy videos including picture of USA gypsies going back to the 1930's. Yesterday April 8th was International Romani Day.
