Cleveland settles suit over police shooting of boy with pellet gun

The city has reached a $6 million settlement in a lawsuit over the death of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old black boy shot by a white police officer while playing with a pellet gun outside a recreation center.

An order filed in U.S. District Court in Cleveland on Monday says the city will pay out $3 million this year and $3 million the next.

The wrongful death suit filed by his family and estate against the city and officers and dispatchers who were involved alleged police acted recklessly when they confronted the boy on Nov. 22, 2014.

  1. This is outrageous! Cops pull up on a guy brandishing a gun, and he dies, it was just an accident.

  2. Pellet guns look like real guns and they do just as much damage as a real gun at close range. I'm certain the police office saw it as a real gun and took appropriate action. Blame the parents for giving a child a pellet gun to shoot. It's ok to have with Adult supervision and target practice.

    1. I agree, it was reported as possible toy gun, but when hes waving it around and pointing it at people, the cops dont know, and those things are very realistic and orange cap was painted, he wanted to act like thug and plugged because of it

  4. Please, this was clearly murder. 99% of the cases I see are justified but this cop is guilty and should be in jail. They didn't even give him a chance. They just pulled up got out and shot. Read the complete story and watch the video.

He was stalking up and down in front of the rec center yelling and threatening and pointing the gun at people...who were understandably frightened. Black people, by the way.

The thug got what he had coming.
