Updated Informational Message from Wicomico County Public Schools on K-9 Drug Scan at Five Schools Friday

Final update on today's K-9 search:

Dogs did alert for contraband during searches at several of the schools, and the investigation is ongoing. The scans were conducted thoroughly and professionally, and we appreciate everyone's cooperation.

Update:

This is a follow-up to the message earlier this morning from Wicomico County Public Schools. The K-9 drug scan of five schools that was conducted by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the school system has been completed. The instructional day has resumed at the five schools that were scanned – James M. Bennett High, Wicomico Middle, Mardela Middle and High, Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and Choices Academy. All went well during the scans, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Thank you.

  1. What would the results have been if they drug tested all of the teachers and staff?

  2. Joe they state the dogs alerted. Well what if anything was recovered. If the dogs alerted should there have been some drugs recovered ? Also I hope someone from the B.O.E. reads this. I was picking up a child at Pinehurst at lunch hour. You could smell weed in the parking lot. They were definitely staff members either teachers or student teachers. I don't care that they are smoking weed these days just don't do it while you are teaching children. Teachers should be randomly drug tested.

  3. Every public employee on the tax payer dole should have a monthly drug test.

  4. I did find it very interesting how they did mention the dogs alerted but no mention of any arrests. Granted, they are minors but they could say arrests were made.

If they can't drug test welfare recipients, why do you think a law could be passed to drug test every employee.

They don't drug test Governors, Congressmen, Senators, Delegates and all other municipal elected officials. They also don't drug test Board of Ed members either.

  5. Everyone should be drug tested. And if a student shows up to school under the influence they should be expelled. If an employee tests positve fire them. If a parent is a user around children, take the children away. Maybe it's time for all citizens to volunteer in the schools to make sure everything is good. Oh wait, it's easier to type in your complaints and do nothing

  8. What difference does it make if your high and make poor decisions or stone sober and do the same? Maybe an iq test would provide the results you all are looking for.
Drug test, iq test, dna test, test test test.
Make everyone RESPONSIBLE for the results of their actions, problem solved!

  9. I sincerely hope 2:24 is not a teacher! 2:24, just what thought was that jumbled mishmash of words designed to express?

Never mind answering; I probably won't understand that, either!

  10. The Wars on Drugs and Poverty are abject failures. The drugs are
just a small symptom of the problem.

  11. Lots of posters suggesting we drug test huge groups of people... who is going to pay for that? You know it's not free, right?

  12. Hey Lewis! Get those dogs back on the side of the road and get the dealers and traffickers and you'd not need to waste time in schools! Better yet ... Since you can search a car over a dog smell.... Try walking them in the hood. Let em take you door to door and let the training and personal experience from the field and allow your four legged police officers signal a warrantless search is needed. No difference in cars or a house in my eyes. Lock up all the dealers and scare em so bad to hold anything or that courts are jammed for months and months. Let the courts figure it. Jury's here will convict all. And a months or so of the jail raking in money and our streets safer from crime and drugs will be worth it.

  13. The dogs probably alerted just in the teachers; break room, not in any student lockers, LOL! Mum's the word!

  14. Several students were caught and questioned by law enforcement. Unsure what penalties, fines or charges may be forthcoming.
