Cop should have radio'd in for someone to read the law over the radio - if the kid was correct by chapter and verse, the cop should have apologized, thanked the kid for providing education and knowing his rights...and then left!
That would have been a better interaction from a trust/ego perspective! The general public has the sense that these cops ARE the law - even when they are wrong. The COPS need to change that perception!
That young man was very disrespectful, to anybody and he will get worse. The cop was there because somebody called. People have a right to walk freely there, without some guy, who thinks he's a kid, doing a trick and running into somebody. Nobody has a"right" to do tricks on a public sidewalk. If he was riding to get from A to B, different story. Free speech also doesn't cover yelling curse words. He was borderline disorderly.
That was awesome
ReplyDeleteKnow your rights - record the interaction!
ReplyDeleteClearly, the cop was wrong - the kids knew it - as soon as the cop knew that the kids knew they were right, it's game over!
Good job on the part of the bike riders for conducting a recorded civil interaction and publishing it!
Yes, the cop got spanked - but they all need to remember that they are only allowed to enforce the law - not their interpretation!

That kid better watch his back because that bastard is going to be laying for him.
ReplyDeleteRespectful (not submissive) and informed. Good work, kid.

ReplyDelete2:10, I'd love to know where you get your information from. Free speech DOES cover curse words.
