Sen. Marco Rubio is set to win the endorsement of Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey Wednesday, two days after the 2016 hopeful finished a strong third in the Iowa caucuses.
A source with knowledge of the plans confirmed the impending announcement to the Washington Examiner, which could come as early as today.
News of the planned endorsement comes one day after South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott announced his support of the Florida senator, who is working to coalesce members of the party behind him with the New Hampshire primary only six days away. Tuesday, Rubio also won endorsements from Reps. Steve Womack and Rick Crawford.
He would become the sixth U.S. senator to endorse Rubio, topping the five backing former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for most of anyone in the GOP field.
