ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The U.S. Agriculture Department says the number of farms in Maryland continues to shrink.
The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service in Annapolis says in a statement that the number of farms in Maryland in 2015 is estimated at 12,200. That’s 100 fewer than in 2014.

The article states the shrinkage has been occurring since 1959 so it can hardly be blamed exclusively on the EPA and any regulations. More along the lines of since the advent of contract farming the competition has decreased for farmers thus making it cost prohibitive to farm. Donald Trump just talked about the importance of competition in relation consumers purchasing health insurance. When farmers had a choice of who to sell their product to, prices had to be competitive.
