There are three bills coming up in Annapolis that would negatively impact Maryland’s poultry industry: anti-chicken manure (SB 496 on 2/23 and HB 599 on 2/24), anti-feed bill (HB 1163 on 3/2), and mandatory unionization (HB 1496 on 3/2 and SB 761 on 3/9).
At the beginning of this month, there was a conference announcing the anti-farmer initiative by urban/suburban politicians who are bent on destroying the vital poultry industry in Maryland. Among them was a “farmer” who supported their efforts.
Image matters more than truth in Annapolis, and press conferences are particularly based on optics, not substance. Often, the “common” person turns out to be a long time activist, yet the media fails to catch these foxes in the hen house.
“Farmer Carole Morison” is one of those foxes.

I have known Carol(e) Morison for over 25 years. She was an incompetent poultry grower. Instead of facing her own shortcomings she decided to blame anyone she could, including Perdue. I have grown for Perdue, among others, and they are far from perfect but they are reasonable if the grower makes an honest attempt and puts forth reasonable effort.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is tax payers should not be paying 1 cent toward the removal or storage or whatever of chicken manure. Tax payers don't pay for a homeowner to get their septic pumped and city dwellers pay dearly for sewer hookup and service so why does a private business get public money to get rid of their waste.
ReplyDeleteNo one except the dog's owner pays for poop scoop bags. Should we start demanding the gov't provide free poop scoop bags to whoever wants them!
Um excuse me 9:50. I too have known the Morisons. If they were such incompetent poultry growers why did they win awards or whatever it is accommodations are called in the chicken world.
ReplyDeleteJust another attack on the Eastern shore way of life by legislators from the Western Shore, who know nothing about farming or agriculture. Carole and Kathy Phillips should use their valuable time going after the real polluters of the bay: The Conowingo Dam and major sewage spills by cities on the western shore.
ReplyDeleteThe money spent on Ag for pollution reduction is a drop in the bucket to what we Marylander's spend for big city upgrades to their sewage and wastewater plants.
As a far right wing extremist I find this article offensive. I have known Carole for about 10 years and no she does not ever nor has every spelled her name any other way than Carole. If it is printed any other way anywhere then it is a mistake on the part of whoever wrote the piece or in printing. So now that lie number 1 is cleared up let's move on.
ReplyDeleteShe is not a radical environmentalist. She is more a conservative than most people in that she truly believes we must conserve what we have. The true meaning of a conservative. You don't pick and choose what to conserve. Everything including the environment is conserved for future generation. That is what it means to be a conservative.
As far as her union activity while I dislike unions I also dislike companies who pay workers so little that they then have to be subsidized by the government to live. This is a form of corporate welfare. Why should the public be subsidizing the employees of private business. They should pay them more and if they don't then cut all handout off to the companies.
10:15 the problem with you people is that you are not at all informed. FYI the Conwingo Dam does NOT create pollution! It traps the pollution and sediment coming down from PA and NY. The dam operators spend millions cleaning out the sediment tanks of pollution they didn't create.
ReplyDeleteI've known them too and they are more like right wing extremists prepper types to me. It seems they believe big business is out to strangle little businesses which is true.
ReplyDeleteI find this article offensive too and inaccurate. Maybe the author should have taken the time to speak w/Carole himself or with people who know her especially those of us who have been thinking they identified with the GOP for years now but after reading this objectively can only conclude the GOP in MD is no different that the democrats. They want to shut people up for one.
This "Jeffrey Peters" is such a loser. No wonder he writes for some 2 bit rag no one including this right winger has ever heard of. He claims (lies really) that Carole Morison goes "alternately by “Carol” or “Carole”." She's never spelled her name any other way then Carole and if it's spelled somewhere otherwise it not her going "alternately". He insinuates she does this to avoid being investigated. What a POS he is. If this jerk is going to lie about small stuff like her name then he can't be trusted on anything he says or writes. I am so sick of both parties and hacks like this low life Peters who are real good at claiming others have an agenda when they do themselves.
ReplyDelete9:50 weren't the Morison's like in the top 5% of producers for Perdue? A lot about what you read about her says that. Is that inaccurate?

ReplyDeleteFrom a Sun article-
"The company requires upgrades such as those to Morison's chicken houses to stay competitive. "If you reinvest, you remain competitive, if you don't, you fall behind," he said. "Perdue is up-front about that with farm families. … You can't stand still.""
Carole Morison is this Right Winger's new hero. After reading up on it this chicken business is like a big Ponzi scheme. Of course if you have a business and you reinvest in it wisely you should stay competitive. But in the case of chicken farming it doesn't make sense because you have no control and it will only increase your debt. Then you can't get out. If you own a restaurant and make improvements you can increase your prices and buy from less expensive vendors but in the chicken business you can't. It's no wonder all I ever see anymore is foreigners on the chicken farm signs.
9:50, a few weeks before the Morison's stopped factory farming, the company gave them an award for being an "Outstanding Producer" so would you explain what you mean by saying "She was an incompetent poultry grower."
