Black Studies Professor Accuses Cops of Racial Discrimination — So Police Released the Dashcam Video

After being accused of mistreating a Princeton University professor this past weekend, the Princeton, N.J., police department released dashcam video of their arrest, which purports to show very polite and friendly treatment by the law enforcement officers.

Imani Perry, a professor of African American Studies at the university, wrote on social media earlier this week that she was arrested for failing to pay a 3-year-old parking ticket. She was pulled over for speeding and the police did confirm that she was arrested Saturday.

“The police treated me inappropriately and disproportionately,” Perry wrote in a lengthy Facebook post, which she has since taken down over fears of hacking and harassment. “The fact of my blackness is not incidental to this matter.”

  1. A traffic stop and arrest done according to the book. Two officers were onsite, one female (good thing, because it could have turned into a sexist-racist complaint)and each of them did their job just as they were trained, politely and efficiently.

  2. What kind of country do we live in that an arrest warrant is issued for an unpaid parking ticket?

    1. Arrest warrants aren't written for parking tickets as such. You have the opportunity to defend yourself in court. If you choose to do so and fail to appear then a bench warrant can be issued for your arrest.
We have laws. You can't cherry pick only the ones you like.

    3. Her license was suspended because of the unpaid parking ticket. I still say we live in a world gone crazy.

  3. 11:53 - Each state, and often counties and municipalities, have their own laws. In some places, you car is booted. In others, you can't register your vehicle. In yet others, your driver's license is suspended until the tickets are paid, and if you drive with it suspended, you're going to be arrested.
