Will Maryland be able to grow enough pot?

WASHINGTON — Maryland is expected to roll out registration for medical marijuana this summer, and the state will award 15 cultivation licenses to growers to supply the tightly regulated market. But a cannabis consumer advocacy group doesn’t think 15 growers will be able to keep up with demand.

While the cultivation licenses have not been issued and it is unclear how large the cultivation centers will be or how much they will produce, the Cannabis Consumers Coalition says it estimates Maryland will come up about 41,000 pounds short to meet demand after reviewing consumption data in other states with legal marijuana programs.

The group is asking policymakers to increase the number of cultivation licenses to 25.

The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission isn’t ruling out possible changes.

“As the medical cannabis program moves into its operational phase, the Commission will continue to monitor the needs of certified patients and the ability of the program to meet those needs,” the Commission said in an emailed statement to WTOP.

  4. What will they do when insects or plant diseases become an issue? There are no pesticides labeled for use on mahruauna.

  5. All of a sudden ailing Marylanders will need more than 20 tons of weed to ease their aches and pains, real and imagined?

Will just create another black market revenue source at street level. Special this week with your SNAP card!

And the don't smoke and drive labels should be amusing.

How about all that second hand smoke and its impact on the environment and the kiddies?

This bad decision will snowball and it won't be pretty.

  6. It will be fine. It's medical only in md. If Colorado can do full blown rec then md can handle medical only.

There are a ton of commercially available pesticides for pot plants, as well as natural remedies.

Everything about your post is imagined. There is ALREADY a black market for pot, and indicators are it is weakened when pot is made legal. Second-hand smoke? Really? I highly doubt anyone will put anywhere near the hundreds, if not thousand of chemicals they put in tobacco.

Here's a suggestion for some of you. Do a google search on what you are thinking but you post it and make fools of yourselves. Just a suggestion
