Rep. Harris hears from Mid-Shore residents at town hall

EASTON — U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, as part of a series of town halls on the Eastern Shore, spoke in Easton Tuesday, Jan. 19 about issues related to national security, the economy, health care, the environment and presidential candidates.

Harris, who is facing re-election this year as a Republican in Maryland’s 1st Congressional district, said the town hall held was a chance to learn the perspectives of his constituents on issues that matter to them.

Harris led with a brief presentation on the state of the U.S. economy, and his ideas for where spending should be targeted. Two concerns he brought up first were economic stagnation and the rising cost of health care.

He said cumulative inflation since 2010 has risen about 9 percent, and workers’ earnings have pretty much tracked that inflation rate over the same period of time, from a low point in 2008 when earnings declined due to the recession.

  2. I really like Harris because I believe he has served us well and he's available to those that want to communicate. I also agree with 4:32. NEVER take anything for granted. The snake, after all, is a snake.

  3. One disappointment is, he should have scheduled more town hall meetings around the area on consecutive days because sometimes, schedules don't permit one-stop events. He serves this district and should be more present within it to connect with his constituents. While he has (or had) an office downtown, he's very seldom ever present. This is a wrong message - he should be more present in the community he is elected to represent.
