Jefferson Airplane’s Paul Kantner dies at 74

Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday. Mr. Kantner, a founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, was 74 and had suffered a heart attack this week.

His death was confirmed by longtime publicist and friend, Cynthia Bowman, who said he died of multiple organ failure and septic shock.

Mr. Kantner had a string of health problems in recent years, including a heart attack in March.

    We may be old., but we got to see all the good bands at their prime. How much 'classic rap' or 'classic hip-hop' or 'classic bounce' do you hear broadcast? Does it even exist?

    RIP, Kantner. Amazing talent, another loss, along with Bowie, Frye and Rickman. Hagerty wasn't a huge talent, but he was good and a nice guy.

    Saw the Group 3 times. Once as the J. Airplane, twice as The J. Starship.
    Really great shows. His talents will be missed.
    Unfortunately Folks my age will be seeing the people we saw in concert dwindle each year. And they aren't much older than me.
