High Wind and Flooding Expected to Continue Until Tomorrow

OCEAN CITY, MD – (January 23, 2016): Ocean City Emergency Services is continuing to monitor the winter storm system that is effecting the coast. At this time the predictions remain consistent with initial forecasts, estimating sustained winds at 35 mph and gusts between 50-60 mph. Approximately three inches of rain and potential snow is expected, which will result in moderate flooding when combined with the storm and tidal surges.

Minor property damage and power outages due to wind have been experienced throughout town. Citizens should also prepare for possible power outages lasting several hours or even several days. The Town of Ocean City will continue to update citizens of utility outages as frequently as possible, however; citizens can view outages at: http://www.delmarva.com/pages/connectwithus/outages/outagemaps.aspx

Additional precipitation, including rain and snow, high winds and flooding will continue through tomorrow morning. With heavy winds and flooding expected to continue, residents and visitors are encouraged to stay off the roadways. If you are driving in or just after heavy rains and you see standing water, do NOT drive through the water.

The Town of Ocean City’s Emergency Services personnel will be working closely with local and state representatives to provide citizens with timely, accurate and essential information before, during and after the storm. Citizens are encouraged to Know Your Zone and Division and be prepared for any impact the storm may have on Ocean City. To begin preparing, citizens should build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan for potential relocation during a flooding event.
