A Virginia school district is defending a classroom assignment that required students to practice calligraphy by writing the Muslim statement of faith, “There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”
Female students at Riverheads High School in Staunton, Virginia, were also invited to wear Muslim clothing -- a story first reported by The Schilling Show
The school district convened a meeting on Dec. 11th to discuss the assignment with outraged parents.

ReplyDeleteThat is not Calligraphy - that is scribble! Calligraphy is decorative handwritting - but it is definatelly legible and readable!
ReplyDeleteThat's ridiculous. Why not practice Chinese characters or copy from Illuminated Manuscripts? Why bring any deity into it at all?
ReplyDeleteIf it had been an exercise in handwriting, where they had to write the Lord's Prayer, there would have been squawling and hollering, and the ACLU would have been right there on the spot.
ReplyDeleteIf my grandson ever brings home an assignment like that, I will teach him to write "INFIDEL" in Arabic script, and that's what he'll turn in.
