“I couldn’t be more excited to join with BIGGYS Community Center to celebrate Christmas today and help bring some happiness to these children,” said Governor Hogan. “BIGGYS is a shining example of people coming together to make an positive impact on their community."

"It's a pleasure to be here today with the governor and our families and help give these kids a great Christmas," said Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford. "Community centers like BIGGYS are crucial to opening up opportunities for children in urban areas and their families, and we are happy to do our part to support their efforts."

Later in the afternoon, Lt. Governor Rutherford, his wife Monica, and their two daughters, Lauren and Kristen, visited Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreational Center where they handed out presents to approximately 200 additional children.

The Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives and the Governor’s Office of Service and Volunteerism collected the presents through donations from Under Armour, Center for Social Change, and Bell Nurseries. Children and their families also enjoyed pictures with Santa as well as refreshments donated by Under Armour and local Wal-Mart stores.

  1. Uh Oh. The governor is a public official, acting in an official capacity, so he must be endorsing a specific religion by doing this, right? Right??

Merry Christmas, Governor! God bless you and your family.
