The Maryland Department of the Environment has approved the cap and closure plan for the Berlin rubble fill site with a projected spring construction start and that means some Worcester residents will need to find another place to dispose of yard waste.
This could be a challenge for residents of northern Worcester in particular, since the closest county-run facility designed to accept such waste is in Newark at the Central Landfill, about eight miles south of Berlin on Route 113.
Public Works Director John Tustin said this project, which has been in the pipeline for years, is part of the normal lifecycle for landfills. As one reaches capacity, another is opened, and the former landfill is sealed and closed.

Liberal dumbocrat. We use fertilizer and chicken poop to make stuff grow and don't want no rotting stuff in the yard to attract copperheads.
