Since When Does This Country Pick And Choose What Color Of Veteran We Donate To

National Association for Black Veterans

It's sad enough we live in a country where groups like Wounded Warriors have to raise funds for ALL wounded Soldiers because this crap hole of a country refuses to take care of those who lost limbs to PROTECT us. Yet now we have a new group who sits outside of WalMart today looking for hand outs for BLACK Veterans, because they are so different???

And we wonder why this country is so divided. But let me ask you, when you ever made a donation did you think, I'm not donating because a portion of my money might go to Blacks, Hispanics, Chinese or whatever.

Quite frankly the image above flat out makes me sick. WalMart allowing such a thing makes me sick. There is no color to a VETERAN! These are Brothers and Sisters, period.

What's next, booths that say please support only white veterans? I've had just about enough of this crap, how about you?

  1. I agree. The only way for this to stop is a group of black Veterans put a stop to it.

  10. I understand minorities in this country sometimes need groups special to their specific concerns. But I agree that veterans already are their own special group with special needs. The servicemen in my family were all very close to their comrades of different colors. We are talking home for dinner together, not just hello on base. So this makes me very sad. I would still donate to this group however, just as I give to Wounded Warriors and groups serving homeless veterans because any group that legitimately takes care of veterans, even just a portion of them is okay in my book. Maybe black veterans need that special attention because like all blacks, they have a higher rate of unemployment or something like that. Maybe I am sad because in this day and age, I wish we didn't have to have any special groups because of color or race or creed or gender. Maybe one day we can truly have that dream.

To all veterans, my family is so grateful and you will always be welcome at our table.

  12. If these guys would abandon their fellow soldiers here, they would abandon them on the battlefield, and our entire military is lost. How dare they even consider standing against those who fought along side them. This is an outrage! Talk about racists. These turds don't deserve a good septic tank to drown in.

  14. Goes along with the NAACP (try establishing the Nat'l Assoc for the Advancement of WHITE People, or Yellow, or Mexican), and the CBC (Congressional Black Caucus. They want to divide to get special handouts, but call whites racist for noting a difference. The net effect has been increased divisiveness and limited Black achievements.

  15. This organization is tax exempt and officially recognized by the VA as a veteran assistance and service program. It does all of the same things that other groups like the VFW, DAV, American Legion, etc do to assist vets and their families with VA claims, jobs, housing, health care, etc. About 90% of their clientele are African Americans. All of their clientele and members are U.S. military veterans who served their country honorably.

Is this like Farakhan and his bunch of thieves. Blacks get exploited all the time by their own. Funny how they can not see it. To busy blaming the white man for their short comings.

  23. Okay, I went to "www.walkthroughthevalley.org , and it doesn't exist. Then, I went to http://nabvets.org and found a contacts page and wrote them a pretty negative opinion I have in their web mail. They require a "Write what you see in this box" thing, but after 10 tries, all my attempts failed, so there's no contacting them.

Just give to us; screw your opinions, I guess.

  24. I feel like a dumb ass. The wife and I was leaving WalMart when we seen this setup in front of the store. The wife got out and put 20 dollars in the container. I didn't pay any attention that this was for just black veterans. Even though the 3 men were black behind the table, it didn't matter cause we thought this was for vets. When I got home and seen your post was when I realized I wouldn't have given. Why in this world do the black have to do things like this. All vets, all colors deserve our support but with the way our lives are being changed I sure hope civil war is not in the making before long. Hats off to all vets, all wars, all colors

  25. Would someone please post where I can contribute towards helping WHITE VETS? Is it a different part of Walmart or a different merchant?

I'm white. I'm a vet. I would simply like to promote vet related support for ME and my family. Sorry, I can't change my skin color.

  27. Just spoke to the night manager at Walmart. He stated that he saw nothing wrong with this and actually supported the obvious and vicious racist signal this group of vets are sending. There is no doubt in anybody's mind that this group of veterans is a stain on all veterans and are only interested with their racist beliefs. What's worse is that we have a major national retailer in our community supporting this trash, A boycott of this one Walmart store needs to be implemented by all people who found, and do find, this racist, offensive and hostile to those who have served regardless of race. The management at this store should be FIRED immediately as they do not support ALL VETS as demonstrated by their support of ONLY vets of a certain race!!

  28. I would like to share something from a friend of mine, a very thoughtful lady.

I will put her comment in quotes.

"In an age when race often gets the wrong kind of emphasis, it is understandable that many people would be upset by this. But you got my curiosity up and I went to their website."

"I encourage you to read Page 21 of the their current issue, written by a new white member of their organization. I learned that blacks have an increased risk for Post Traumatic Epilepsy. Much like blacks have a higher risk of high blood pressure and sickle cell anemia."

"This is why some organizations do exist based on color. In addition to trying to get past racism, reality is, different colors and ethnic groups do have different needs, and not necessarily because they want to."

"I am glad we have moved past the segregated military days that required the Tuskegee Airmen to be separate. But maybe where this is concerned, instead of having a hard reaction to the fact that this is a separate of veterans because their group has special needs, too, maybe we should open our hearts and be grateful that these veterans are getting their special needs met by this group, precisely because all vets matter."

"Many years ago, a gentleman put me down for promoting women's heart issues. He said all people have heart attacks and so on. I calmly replied sure, but did he know that at that time, studies measured the care response time for women heart patients and found it way, way higher than for men heart patients? Or did he know that there was once upon a time that insurance companies wouldn't pay for mammograms or other breast wellness care. It seemed they would rather you get diagnosed late, be more expensive to treat, and die earlier?"

"Maybe we could move past our gut reactions on why there are separate groups like this. With veterans, separate groups for the disabled, for combat warriors, for the homeless, etc. have cropped up because while they are all vets, they have not all had the same experience. Those specific needs have to be addressed with focus. A general all-veteran group can't typically address them. In fact, why do we have an American Legion AND a Veterans of Foreign Wars? Why a separate group for Vietnam Veterans?"

"Maybe we could try on a different set of eyes for this group as well, seeing not the segregation of color, but the focusing on the NEEDS because of that color, whether it be cultural or physical. I would rather celebrate that these VETERANS' specific needs are being addressed. I think my heart and concern for our veterans are big enough to do that."

"We all know times when race is abused as a reason or a cause, when accusations are made unfairly. But that doesn't mean we should assume that is always the case, or that every separation of human beings is politically or divisively based. If we do, I think maybe those who DO want to see us divided - whether they are black, white, brown, red, yellow, whatever religion, no religion, etc. - get their wish - to divide us and sow the seeds of hate and have us fight each other for their gain."

This lady gave me something to think about and I have always respected her ability to think through things, even when we disagree. I thought I would copy and paste her comments to me. For what it's worth, her comment about women not getting the same heart health care hit a nerve for me because I think that is exactly what happened to a beloved aunt of mine back in the day.

  30. 8:45, after reading that, I'm rather ashamed of my original reaction. That really is a perspective I didn't consider.

Forgive me for asking, though, is your lady friend a liberal?

    ReplyDelete
  31. 8:35, seems a bit extreme. Fire a man from his job for allowing a legitimate non-profit org a table in front of the store? Boycott them (that'll never happen) and put 100's of employees out of work?

I am not sure how that solves anything. Can you elaborate how this solves the problem by making a problem for people (employees) who had no say in this decision?

How does firing people solve the problem?

    ReplyDelete
  32. One of the qualities of Ronald Regan was the ability to reach across the aisle and work with those politicians that had an opposite viewpoint (for those of limited vocabulary - the democratic politicians) and seek common ground in order to advance his objectives. It is evident that the majority of people posting on this blog have neither the ability to see the perspective of another nor the ability to accept that others have looked at the same set of information and arrived at a differing but equally valid conclusion. Very sad indeed.

  33. 9:37 - THE MANAGERS INVOLVED WITH SUCH A DECISION TO SUPPORT AN OPENLY RACIST GROUP (NO MATTER THEY'RE VETERANS) SHOULD BE FIRED FOR STUPIDITY. JUST ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION: If a group of veterans, who were promoting a whites only veteran organization, would be permitted by Walmart to set up for donations on their property be allowed to do so or would there be backlash from the ENTIRE community?? Walmart needs to rid itself of such narrow minded managers and if it takes a boycott, so be it!! This decision to support open racism is blatantly wrong and the folks who made this mistake should be FIRED!! The NABV apparently has decided to play the race card and Walmart, lacking common sense management, went along with this fiasco! Shane on the NABV and on Walmart for their adding to the problem of racial division in this country as both are cowards and not true patriots!!~

Veterans could be the ones to set the pace for bringing our country back together.
And we should be. Start today.

  40. It is a shameful part of our history that veterans were ever segregated by race/color, but if it continues today, that's OUR fault.

  41. These Veterans were out front of Wal Mart asking for donations to pay for gas for their two vans to transport Veterans to the Western Shore for doctors appointments. How may of you actually stand out to collect funds/promote anything. Not many. These people will transport anyone. No matter what color or nationality. They have a kind heart and will help anyone at any time.
Instead of complaining why not pitch in and help any organization do something.
How about placing flags on Veterans graves. We had seven adults and about 12 teenagers place 600 plus flags on graves. How about when the wreaths are placed on graves. Get out and do something and you will find out we all work together.
How many stand out in the cold to collect money for the Salvation Army...not many Put your energy to doing something good instead of trying to find fault for those who do. :)

  46. 10:57 I understand and agree with the segregation issue, but again, I do not see how making people unemployed helps.

I am sure you can find a better way to make your point heard and a more productive way to make a change for the better.

They themselves are keeping segregation alive, and that is not something I can change, so I chose to ignore it and move on with my life. If others do the same and not donate, I am sure change will be inevitable.

Since I never donate to such groups, I would have never noticed, so thank you for bringing this issue to light.

The United States Navy does not use the military occupational specialty as the marines and the army do, but instead uses their own variant, called a "rate". The navy divides their occupational specialties into "ratings" for enlisted personnel and "designators" for officers.

  49. I have personally spoke to both the night manager and the day manager who I presume is the overall top manager at this location concerning this situation and the division it's caused in our community. All I can say is that both are consistent liars and very disrespectful to vets in general. Between the two stories from both, there was not one shred of truth in either of their explanations. Apparently this must be representative of their corporate structure/environment and is very disturbing. Our family, which has spent thousands of dollars each year at Walmart, will no longer shop there for anything. They do not deserve our loyalty or patronage as they have proven both to be racists and liars> So sad. And by the way, I am a Black Veteran and a proud American.

  51. we have to take care of our own. The FACT is that most veteran charities are dispensed according to event founders or organisers. African american veterans dont see many donations throught these privitised methods. Dont act like you dont know whats going on. Obviously someone felt that this group of individual veterans was underserved. you want to help get off your highhorse and go put some money in the bucket instead of running your mouths while you give nothing to any veteran let alone black.
