Vigil Set For Heroin Victims This Friday In Salisbury

There will be a vigil for heroin addicts and victims this Friday between 7:30 to 9:00 pm at the pavilion near the river walk.

There were some 578 Maryland citizens that died in 2014 from heroin overdoses.

We at Salisbury Mews are trying very hard to educate the public on the heroin problem. We, (along with many other very concerned citizens, business leaders and elected officials) are trying out hardest to get legislation changed to better help these addicts get help immediately, rather then the now standard waiting periods.

Not only does this affect crime locally, it affects our property values in a very big way. The more crime, the less people want to move here. The less people will invest in homes and or bring/start their businesses here.

WE have a stake in this more then you think, or have thought anyway. It's time as a community we come together and hold Law Enforcement Leaders accountable as well. We need to demand better transparency. We need to know, how many people have been arrested. How many have overdosed. Oh sure, it looks really good when they pull someone over in a RENTAL car from Florida heading to New York and arrest them for drug trafficking but what does that do for OUR local drug problems? NOTHING!

We have a problem Ladies & Gentlemen and if you keep putting your heads into the sand your homes will be worth nothing and who benefits from that, slumlords, supported by your elected officials. Heck, some of those elected officials are slumlords themselves. Who's wearing the tin foil hats now!

It truly was your election to lose!

  1. LOL blame LE for the problem. LE IS NOT the problem. This is a society problem starting with the lack of parenting and education for young people.

    1. What about the lack of active patrols? Hard to stop dealers while sitting in a parked car.

  2. Public Service Announcement:

The other blogger guy is changing comments! I made a two-part comment regarding the amount of mistakes he has made and then mentioned that Day and Ireton are cut from the same cloth. Only the first half was printed; the other half was deleted. Go figure.

  5. I take opioids and I will stop after my next surgery. Those idiots that want heroin do it on their own. It's not my problem and I don't want to hear about it.

  6. How are you a victim? Did the needle just jump up and into your arm?

  7. really. wow i love all the compassion here. just for the record it a society problem . that means it effects all of us. i can not say what it is like to be on herion because i never used it. however i know quiting cold turkey when u have used it can kill u. no matter how rich or poor every one will or has some one they love that has used. it is not always about the education or parents a person has. so many ppl get hooked on it after they were giving pain medication from some sort of surgery or problem. if society as a whole would just grow a heart and stand together we just might when a battle . if changing laws or arresting one drug deal saves one life . then it is worth it.

  8. Correction: slumlords supported by SOME of your elected officials. In fact, one of them, the county council president, IS a premier slumlord.

  10. 5:31 Quitting Heroin (or opiates) cold turkey WILL NOT KILL YOU. It is very uncomfortable, that is why they are weened off, but it will not kill you. The only thing I know of that will kill you quitting cold turkey is quitting long term heavy alcohol use.
