Lewes, DE – Troopers are investigating a serious motorcycle crash that sent two people to area hospitals early Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:25 p.m. Thursday September 3, 2015, as Brian A. Taylor, 25 of Lewes, was operating a 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Dairy Farm Road approximately one half mile south of Lewes-Georgetown Highway (US9). Jonathan H. Hurd, 54 of Georgetown, was operating a 1993 International Dump Truck and had just pulled onto Dairy Farm Road northbound in front of the motorcycle from a private access road leading to a corn field. The motorcycle then struck the left rear of the truck, ejecting Taylor and his female passenger into the roadway.
Brian Taylor, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Beebe Healthcare where he was admitted with undetermined injuries.
Kristen N. Schaffer, 26 of Lewes, was not wearing a helmet and was airlifted from the scene by Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) to Christiana Medical Center where she was admitted in critical condition.
Jonathan Hurd was uninjured in the collision.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident and no charges have been filed. Dairy Farm Road was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
