Military in Maryland

Maryland plays a crucial role in our nation's defense and generates a $57.4 Billion economic impact. The state is a thriving location for Department of Defense related activities such as biodefense, cybersecurity, avionics, informatics and ordnance and weapons testing.

Under the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, Maryland added thousands of jobs, primarily at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Fort Meade, and the Naval National Medical Center at Bethesda. Maryland's 8,580 aerospace and defense businesses annually generate $32.82 billion in economic activity and secure $8.42 billion in federal contracts.
