Seven insurance companies have been approved to sell workers' compensation and life insurance in Maryland.
The seven insurers — six selling workers compensation and one selling life insurance — builds on Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer Jr.’s goal to bring more insurers to Maryland. Redmer thinks more insurance companies will increase competition and possibly drive down prices for consumers.
The six new workers' compensation plans add to options available from more than 500 carriers. Many of those plans are offered by subsidiaries of the same company. For example, 21st Century Insurance sells workers compensation plans under six names.
