Councilman Matt Holloway stated this week that the Council has already approved this new department, we need to support it and move on.
It has been proven for at least two decades that Maryland has NOT been business friendly and John Cannon is living proof that he is trying to stop Executive Culver from moving the County in a forward direction. Even Dave Ryan from SWED stated he agrees that more boots on the ground will only help.
When John Cannon and Bob Culver ran for Office, BOTH of them used a platform stating the most important thing the County needed was JOBS. Creating a new Economic Development Department is the right move. We need fresh blood, fresh ideas, new energy and by golly we need to support such an idea.
In my honest opinion, I think John Cannon is planning to run for County Executive in the next election and will do whatever it takes, (great ideas) to stop any progress for Executive Culver.
There's always an agenda and if Cannon thinks holding another public hearing is necessary, well, the man is completely clueless because this is the ONLY way to move the County forward when it comes to job creation. Unless, that is, Mr. Cannon believes he's got a better idea, which I highly doubt.
We need to show Wicomico County is open for business and representatives like John Cannon need to get out of the way and stop playing politics.
PEOPLE NEED JOBS MR. CANNON!
The comments under the post about Culver announcing assistant County Attorney leaving should be moved under here. Some really great ones about Cannon. Or, maybe that article could be placed under this one.
ReplyDeleteCannon only is in office because he was, at the time, the lesser of 2 evils. We may have been better off with Mitchell as we knew what you got with her. Cannon has not changed his RHINO ways, in fact he is worse. He could be part of the salvaging of this County, but instead he wants to continue to the Creamer/Pollitt regime.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason Cannon would be pulling something like this is because he wants a "record" to use against Culver. Well guess what Johnny boy, the people who VOTED OUT Pollitt will rise up and vote you out too. You are not doing what the people want, you are doing what CREAMER wants. The leader of the good ole boys. You are a disgrace as a "Republican" council president.
ReplyDeleteCrannon = Creamer and Cannon. He is not a progressive thinker. He wants the old ways that destroyed this County.
ReplyDeleteI challenge the other Republican Council Members to throw him out as President before you all look as stupid as he does. What is wrong with you? Marc Kilmer for Council President!
ReplyDeleteCRANNON! I love it. Funny, but sadly true. Can't find his way without Creamer telling him what to do. Cannon and the Council has the power to rid us of this double dipping, devious, self important blood sucker. Cannon doesn't have what it takes to do it. Trying to play up to the Dems. They won't/can't save you John.
ReplyDeleteA very truthful post, Joe. Thanks! It's time to put personal desires aside and work for the betterment of Wicomico County. Cannon will have his opportunity 3 years from now if he thinks he can do a better job but the people elected Culver and Cannon needs to support his efforts to accomplish good things for us rather than obstruct. We are watching closely.
ReplyDeleteCannon is the Obama of Wicomico County. We have a Republican executive and Republican controlled Council. Things should be running smoothly. Who is the problem? Cannon! or should I say Ocannon. So many great names for him - LOL!
ReplyDeleteAll he is asking for is a detailed accounting of how the money will be spent. Seems to me that is reasonable.
ReplyDeleteWell, here's how I see it. IF Cannon thinks Culver is going to FLOP on this idea, why not let it go through? I'll tell you why. Because Cannon knows this is the right move. The Council have already approved the funding and support the new department. Cannon is starting to remind me of Jim Mathias. There is no excuse for what Cannon is doing. He represents we the people and he is purposely harming we the people.
ReplyDelete9:12, Cannon already knows where the money is being spent. $150,000.00 of the $600,000.00 is going to SWED. Cannon already voted to move forward months ago. He is grandstanding for no reason.
ReplyDeleteCannon is overlooking the fact that Hogan, who is doing a fabulous job and is held in high esteem, really likes Bob Culver. John, do you really believe by obstructing Bob you are scoring points with the Republican leadership? You won't stand a chance against Bob. This is coming from someone who not only voted for you, but supported you financially. You are a HUGE disappointment and weren't truthful during your campaign based on your performance in office to date. Bob will get support from the State level to beat you. My recommendation - start acting like a Republican team player instead of a liberal Democrat.
ReplyDeleteCannon needs to stop his game playing. We voted for an Executive form of government. Culver is trying to be an Executive, something we didn't have under Pollitt as Pollitt let Creamer/Shea/good ole boys pull the strings. Cannon wants to stay with the old ways because of his association with not only Creamer, but the newest good ole boy Strausburg. Get over yourself John. You aren't that special any more. New Sheriff in town with Culver and the PEOPLE are liking him...not you!
ReplyDeleteBest thing I ever did, was get my business out of Wicomico County and MD. No regrets and nothing but growth and promise since. Should have done it 10 yrs earlier.
ReplyDeleteTime for a new Council president. Kilmer and JHolloway - do something about it!!!! MHolloway and Dodd get with the program. Cannon isn't helping you.
ReplyDeleteMatt Holloway made the best statement when he said it was already approved and by now trying to limit the account would be micro managing and he for one was not interested in micro managing. Put it out there Matt.
ReplyDeleteHis excuse is prudent spending. That's B.S. It is micromanaging at its worse. What does Cannon want part of the glory? Get on board Cannon and the elected officials will claim the fame if it all works out. Doing nothing and micromanaging is not an option. I'm sick of all those who claim they want to do the best for the county and then it is all about them. I'm not the only one. Just look at the GOP candidate polls.
ReplyDelete9:15 I am with you. I voted and supported John. I am appalled by this action in particular and unhappy with his behavior as President overall. He acts like he is on a power trip.
ReplyDeleteJohn Cannon loves the attention. When things are going smoothly he can't stand it. Always trying to put himself in the limelight.
ReplyDeleteJohn, you've turned into a predictable bore.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for a change in leadership on Council. The last time I counted there should be at least 5 votes to change leadership. Just do it.
ReplyDeleteSwallow your ego Cannon and do what is right for the people.
ReplyDeleteI was impressed with M Holloway. He sees this exactly for what it is. Way to go Matt!
ReplyDeleteI think one of the best comments I have read this morning was Pollitt was driving the county without his hands on the steering wheel. Well, Cannon has his foot on the brake while we the people are suffering.
ReplyDeleteCannon aka flip flopper Rino.
ReplyDeleteCannon needs to do the work of the people. We voted for change and more conservative leadership with republicans. He isn't providing that. If he thinks wanting details on every "approved" expenditure is leadership, he needs to rethink that. He appears petty and jealous of Culver with some of his off the wall actions. Grow up Cannon. Your desire to be Executive is overwhelming your brain. BTW, I for one will work hard to be sure you NEVER are Exec. You can't be trusted.
ReplyDeleteCannon is working a personal agenda not the people's agenda.
ReplyDeleteJoe, what is Cannon's email address so we can tell him he is wrong!
ReplyDeleteI'm like that other guy who commented. John Cannon, I supported your campaign and your presidency and now feel betrayed. I also supported Culver because it appeared you both were in the same page with a desire to create jobs. It appears I was wrong with one of my votes.
ReplyDeleteNot good for Wicomico. Demand that he resign now.
ReplyDeleteI believe he's being very prudent. Bob Culver has a history of mismanagement of money, just look at his failed businesses. There is nothing wrong with oversight.
ReplyDeleteRecall the slumlord cannon.
ReplyDeleteCannon rode culvers tail in the election he has always been a failure.
ReplyDeletePrudent and obstruction are two entirely different things. The people spoke at the budget hearings on economic development and we expect more from Cannon.
ReplyDeleteTo the person who keeps posting Bob mismanaged money and has failed businesses. I can't think of more mismanagement of money and failed "business" than Wicomico County under the past regimes. Culver has reduced spending and is trying to improve things. The previous administrations ran us into the ground.
ReplyDeleteMr. Cannon, this is not your plan, it's the County Executive's. He's there so that something can be done about the dismal jobs picture in Wicomico County. When it comes to executing the plan, that's not you either, it's the County Executive and the people to whom he gives authority.
ReplyDeletePlease get out of the way and let this get done!
Time for Mr. Cannon to step down as president of the county council. Unfortunately, his agenda is making the other members of the council look like a bunch of idiots.
ReplyDeleteDamn you, John Cannon, quit playing politics. You've never had to worry about a job, unlike most of us, so just stop playing games and let this county move forward. If you can't do your job and do it right, then you need to get out of the chair and let someone else do the job right.
ReplyDelete11:03. Well said. Amen!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, John Cannon was in lock step with Ricky Pollitt. John Cannon did a rotten job in terms before, yet the voters put him back
ReplyDeleteso he could have the Council in a constant uproar. If you remember, Cannon refused to relinquish control of the Presidents' seat when all
along a custom, tongue in cheek, was that every member got to serve in that capacity. As far as him with a job, his Dad left him and his brother a small fortune. Ask yourselves WHY he needs to be in the capacity he is and get rid of him the next ballot or you LOSE again
next time around!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately 11:03 and 11:13, Wicomico county and SBY are not coming back. That ship has sailed. Look at the posts about Perdue from yesterday. People still trying to drive the remaining businesses out. The farmers are close to calling it quits over the environmentalists. They only thing keeping them alive are subsidies and this year lower fuel costs. The university brings new people to the area as they expand, but they are not business friendly. Retail and service jobs are now the industry of the area.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Cannnon can be found on the golf course with Strausberg also. I wouldn't want my administrator director bunks with the council member who is trying to undermine my goals.
ReplyDeleteCulver has made some good moves, but some of his baffle me. He has to know that Strausburg is a liability. He is in cahoots with Creamer and Cannon and has been all along. For some insane reason, Culver seems to think he "needs" the blowhard. We need him gone before five years so we aren't stuck paying him for the rest of his life and giving him benefits too. Don't make him another Jim Fineran!! Wake up Bob!!! You owe the man NOTHING! The enemy is within your office walls including the gossip queen Lisa who leaks your info to Jonathan Taylor. They talk about how stupid you are - don't prove them right by keeping them!
ReplyDeleteI may be a rube, but maybe, just MAYBE, Cannon may just want more council oversight as to how the monies are spent by A NEW department.
ReplyDeleteI for one applaud government in the sunshine.
Why shouldn't the council, and the PUBLIC that they were elected to represent, know how those monies are being spent?
If Strausburg was any kind of Administrator or had any loyalty to Culver, he would be working things out with Cannon "on the golf course", so that the man he works for - the Executive of this County - didn't get constant push back from the Council President from the same freaking political party (except we know Cannon is a closet Dem or should I say DIM). Strausburg is a loser as an Administrator for Culver. Just imagine where this County would be if Culver had an Administrator who actually did their job!
ReplyDeleteFantastic reading on my lunch break. It gives me some hope that the public is seeing Cannon and Strasberg for what they are. They want to keep the County in its downward Democratic driven spiral. It is encouraging that Culver is able to replace some of the abusers with new people with a better sense of right and wrong.
ReplyDelete11:39 I'm sure 'berg has to let Cannon win. ROLMAO. Now there is a pair of losers.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with Cannon-RINO, is he moving out of Nutters Crossing Development?? Moving trucks were seen at his place a couple of days ago.
ReplyDeleteCannon is doing what he has done since high school, grandsatnding just to get his name out there like he is someone more important than anyone else! Hey everyone look at me, I am conservative and just want to be sure our money is spent wisely! Well Mr. Cannon it has been brought to the table, discussed in public, voted on and passed! It is now time to move one to other problems and quit rehashing the same old sh**!
ReplyDeleteAm I missing something, or isn't attempting to monitory and/or limit government spending and central planning a 'conservative' idea? Is not a $600,000 government funded 'economic development plan' not just a small version of Obama's stimulus package? Or, is it because this spending program was proposed by a Republican, thereby making it an acceptable form of statism?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me the time to scrutinize the economic development plan line by line should have been prior to its approval. If the Council saw fit to approve it, why then is Cannon questioning it now? Did he vote for it before? This seems like a power play on Cannon's part and not befitting a "Council President".
ReplyDeleteIs it possible Cannon thought this was a good time to strike out at Culver because of retirements and resignations? The old "hit him when he's down" kind of thinking? Frankly, if that is the case, it is small minded and certainly not what we need or deserve from a Council president. Council members should rethink their leadership!
ReplyDeleteI love it when a glory hound like Cannon implodes with a bad move. Keep 'em coming Johnny boy. We've had your number all along.
ReplyDeleteCannon "campaigned" to be President of the Council, making calls and lining up support from the other council members. You all fell for it when the election was fresh. Times have changed and your leadership needs to change. Let's have a straight shooter, man of character as Council President like Marc Kilmer.
ReplyDelete9:42
ReplyDeletejcannon@wicomicocounty.org
Only three moves needed and this County will be able to get down to serious business. Creamer and Strasberg gone and Cannon removed as Council President. We are getting so close to breaking the back of the good ole boy system. Bob, take care of Strasberg. Council take care of Creamer and Cannon.
ReplyDeleteMarc Kilmer is a self thinker and not vindictive. Put him in as your president.
ReplyDeleteMarc Kilmer for Council Prez
ReplyDeleteHe is another flip flopper.
DeleteOk - let me get this straight. Cannon is challenging something already approved by the Council he is president of? What's wrong with that picture? Also, what has Cannon done to try and grow jobs? He probably likes the low wage jobs so he can rent his slum houses to them. Higher paying wages would mean people would want better housing. Do you see ULTERIOR MOTIVE here?
ReplyDelete1:18 OMG, I hope you are right! Would that be great or what? Come on Bob and Council...get er done!!
ReplyDeleteI hope the council members are reading these comments. Seems like a lot of people would like to see Kilmer as president.
ReplyDeleteThis no doubt is the fault of the "Disgraced former president of HSB isn't it Joe? Simply blocking a person with such means will not stop us! We are those who believe Greg left because it was time the board wanted things to change in ways Greg didn't want to take it so he left period end of story. Any other story is based on lies!
ReplyDeletelmao dave ryan? he's the only one getting a job. whats he done for the 20+ years he's been there?
ReplyDeletewhat a joke!
He has done exactly nothing
DeleteYou know...John is not a dummy. If he has reservations, maybe he and Bob should be working those out. You want good decisions, not simply decisions made by your council and the executive. Start asking "why?" and stop looking to pick an offense. You might be the wiser for it.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it fascinate you about politicians , the dollar and the glory,
ReplyDeleteWe the people , them the person.
Next year Wicomico County needs to stop funding Dave Ryan and SWED. WTF has he done in the last 10 years or longer. Nice guy, but we need progress. Salisbury can have him.
ReplyDeleteErnie Davis for County Council President

ReplyDeleteAll he is asking for is a detailed accounting of how the money will be spent. Seems to me that is reasonable.
September 4, 2015 at 9:12 AM
You are correct
Sounds like local elitists putting pressure on Cannon because they want no growth.
ReplyDeleteOld man Bob Cannon was a Democrat and a liberal one at that. Twin brother Bobby was a Democrat also. So what do you expect from John? He is a Republican in name only and has strong ties to the Democrat party.

Oh Bullcrap. Matt Holloway is a liberal Democrat who is only on the council so that he can get funding and exemptions for his property. Is this you Matt or one of your Bunky's? Wicomico County doesn't need Matt Holloway or John Cannon. They both were the lesser of 2 evils. Who else were our choices? Laura Mitchell and Muir Boda. Duh! How soon we forget that Joe posted pictures of Matt Holloway drinking it up at Rick Pollitt's $500 a person fundraiser. Drinking it up with Pollitt, John Hall, Jake Day, Laura Mitchell and current president of the Democrat Club Josh Hastings.

Um... Bob hired his Finance Queen from Accomack or North Hampton County and paid her $20,000 more than she was making down their and much more than the finance director he fired. This woman is not worth $115,000 year. Don't think all of us tax payers are stupid!!
Exactly 100% correct. however most are fools.

Nice try Bozo! Go back and look at the taped meetings for this issue and the budget. Marc Kilmer did the same thing John Cannon is being critized for. Marc Kilmer openly voted against this and now you are campaigning to get your buddy voted in as President. Sorry pal, but I am paying attention and Kilmer is not on the list for Council President. Funny how these keyboard warriors say shit on here to influence people with stupid comments.

the new finance department head is a CPA with direct experience. Mackle was not a CPA and had no direct experience. seems like she is worth the money. it's about time we had a CPA keep an eye on the funds in this county. apparently she is well respected by the bond people, another plus for us.
ReplyDelete5:29 - Hi Wayne, your anger is showing.
ReplyDeleteJoe Holloway would be a great President. Rumor has it that Matt is planning on retiring soon and Shawn is trying to get his unemployed wife a job. Being a small time campaign manager doesn't make her qualified for the job.
ReplyDeleteBy the way Shawn Fahey it might be a good idea to quit posting these comments pushing for the council to vote for Marc Kilmer as the council president. That is a conflict of interest and many of us know it is you making these comments.

Mackle didn't wear a skirt either and the CPA wasn't worth $25,000 more than she was making in Hillbillyville Accomack County.
Kudos to Cannon -- a watchdog he is!
ReplyDeleteAnd those billboard signs on Route 50 are a huge waste of tax $$$.
Just like Beauchamp, Mackes, Morris, etc. -- Ryan's got go.
ReplyDelete2:32 a.m. - you obviously have a problem with a woman in a leadership position. All you good ole boys do. How dare a woman interfere with the boys club! Accomack may be hillbilly to you, but what does that make Wicomico? Redneckville, Thugville, Backwardville?
ReplyDeleteNo matter how much money is appropriated to economic development - it won't make any difference. That's right! You see - 15 years ago when the business exodus started showing up on the radar screen, what did Maryland do. They - throttled up the regulator barriers, increased taxes, embarked upon hostile and cumbersome regulations exacerbating the problem. Many of the posters above might be saying - be more specific. Okay here are just a few of the hostile MD regulations.
ReplyDelete1. Maryland's 2020 Plan - (limit growth to no more than 1,000,000 residents a year until the year 2020). 15 acres per residential dwelling limit. How about critical areas regulations - no structure within 1500' of any tributary (creek, pond, ditch) that leads into any stream or river than empties into the Chesapeake.
2. Maryland Wetlands Legislation. Basically, virtually everything in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Talbot, Queen Anne's is wetlands - and so you do analogy.
3. Maryland's Unemployment Compensation tax increases - (employer mandate). Everyone knows that Maryland dramatically increased these fees beyond most MD businesses ability to compete with other States.
4. Maryland's Raintax - (I'll leave that to your own imagination).
5. Maryland's Storm water Management Implementation - (MD Legislature railroaded individual Maryland Counties) - basically handcuffing officials.
6. 20% increase in MD Sales Tax - (5% to 6%)
7. Automatic increases in gasoline taxes - (this legislation took out ANY PUBLIC INPUT INTO THE CALCULUS)
8. FLUSH TAX - This new tax DOUBLED within 3 years of implementation.
9. Dramtic increases in Chesapeake Bay bridge tolls - You all have seen the signs, and paid, the extra monies.
10. Dramtic increases in tags, registrations, titling, of your automobiles.
I could go on and on - but one can generally see why most businesses have abandoned our State. Until the calculus is changed - it ain't going to get any better. And IMHO - I don't ever see that happening in Maryland - under the current form of governance. I agree with some of the above posters - Secession is now the only way.
Adding a new govt dept is expanding government, which means more taxes. If Ryan and SWED cannot get new businesses to Wicomico County then no one else can. Has busn taxes decreased enough or incentives increased to attract the new businesses yet? That's what it will take to increase MD businesses. That and getting the libs out of DC.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of yjr low income housing and Salisbury will come back, People don't want to go out at night due to crime.
ReplyDelete9:18 your comment is hilarious and so true! The majority of the good ole boys don't like women in their sandbox. Some of those in County government have been BIG offenders and offensive to women. Mackes and Mackle were both notorious in their poor treatment of women. Just ask any woman who worked with them or felt their wrath. Two still need to go. Creamer and Strasburg are so arrogant and so superior, they can't stand to be challenged by a woman of substance. They probably secretly think a woman needs to be home washing dishes instead of having a position of any authority. Give them a bimbo any day - like a former councilwoman. Backwardsville is a good title. LOL.
ReplyDelete9:49 You are dreaming. Salisbury is not coming back. Manufacturing jobs are not returning.

Are you paying attention! Governor Hogan, his administration and some local elected officials are on board with making these changes. The financial changes first then we can work on the "Wetlands." Any legislation dealing with wetlands and critical areas is a bunch of crap that was forced on us by the Democrats and people that don't live in rural areas. Funny how those clowns use our beaches.
8:05 your right on and people who don't agree are the voters who vote these people in.
ReplyDelete12:01 how do you know she would have worked for less? Would you ask a man with a CPA to work for "less"? Perhaps she was the most qualified applicant for the job. Most are delighted that we FINALLY have a CPA working for us. As far as your other comments, how did the female attorney taking the Worcester job (her home county) mean Culver 'forced her out"? You must be a very angry person and you sound bitter too.
ReplyDeleteI would be the first to agree that John Cannon is pretty useless per my perception! So why was he elected? Well, the choice was John or Laura Mitchell and good God NO ONE wanted her or really either one of them. It is a shame there is no one else in Salisbury/Wicomico County that would step up to the plate. If they had.......John wouldn't be there today. Remember he was there before and he was replaced and he will be again if someone of integrity runs against him. AND that we all need to pray for!
ReplyDeleteI too think John Cannon has his eyes on a higher position. Maybe running for County Executive. Someone said he is moving so check out where he moves then you might be able to tell which Delegate/Senator position he wants to run for. We don't want him in Nutters. Hope he really is moving.
ReplyDeleteJohn Boy you have a hair out of place... Please go to your hair dresser to get it fixed.
Has John Cannon ever had to work for a living? Has he ever had a real job that he got on his own?
ReplyDeleteI am getting sick and tired of seeing the same people saying Mark Kilmer should be the council president. He is the one that voted this down in the first place. It's obvious he isn't going to play well with our County executive. Wrong move Dude.

I agree, but we are not talking about Salisbury we are talking about Wicomico County.
Now if you want to talk about Salisbury let's talk about dissolving Salisbury's Charter. Now you're talking.

LOL.

Ironically you don't like the good ole boys that won't let women play in their sandbox, but you bash one in your last sentence. You are an idiot and you prove a point.
Well let me just say this. I have been doing this for a LOT of years now. ANY article that receives over 100 comments is HUGE. I'm not bragging, not at all. Just pointing out that a TON of people have followed it and my strong guess from so many years of experience would be, Mr. Cannon better start towing the line soon.
ReplyDeleteCulver, all the way!!! Good job as I voted for change!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes sir! Change it shall be!!!! Great job...
