For all those enthusiasts of old-fashioned means of land trave
l, we have an event you won’t want to miss! On September 19,2015 at Wrights Market on Rt.50/Ocean Gateway, between 10 and 4 you can look and marvel and oooh and aaah to your heart’s content! It’s the Barren Creek Heritage Car Show, this year In Memory of Ralph Hooper. Ralph, who passed away earlier this year was past President of Westside Historical Society, the sponsor of this Car Show. All who knew Ralph can attest to his pride in his 1950 Packard which he had restored and displayed at scores of events around the Shore.
Owners of antique, classic, and vintage cars, as well as old trucks and tractors, are invited to come and display your pride and joy vehicle! Registration begins at 10 but will continue until 3:30, as a cost of just $15 per vehicle. If you bring more than one, the cost of registering the second is just $5. There will be dash plaques for the first twenty vehicles registered. Six trophies, voted on by the participants and visitors to the Show, will be awarded. The six categories areBest Classic Car in Show (made between 1970 and 1990), Best Antique Car in show (made between 1940 and 1969), Best Vintage Car in show (made before 1940), Best Truck in Show, Best Tractor in Show, Youngsters’ Choice for Best in Show (only kids 14 and under can vote for this).
We are seeking sponsors for the Trophies, and donors of $100 will have their business or other name printed on a trophy, printed on the banner at the Show, and will be given recognition in advertising about the show. The deadline for becoming a Sponsor, however, is September 14. Email, phone, or write if you would like to become a Sponsor!
A SPECIAL ATTRACTION at this year’s show will be exhibits of Vintage Bicycles! In coordination with the Julia A. Purnell Museum in Snow Hill, we will be showing any old bikes that people would like to bring out.
There will be no registration fee for these bicycles, and no prizes, but we would just like to see how many vintage bike enthusiasts we have out there. Cindy Byrd, curator of the Purnell Museum, will be bring her 1939 Schwinn DX, the only model made that year. It’s a red beauty!! And how about a Hopalong Cassidy bike from the ‘50s?? Surely there are some beauties out there. They do not have to be restored; bring them along even in their “needing-some-love” state! If there is enough interest, maybe we can do a Bicycle Show next year!
This Show has another special attraction!! We are looking for folks interested in vintage Bicycles!
There will be music, a 50-50 raffle, and food! A fun day!! Mark your calendars!! For more information, write to Westside Historical Society at westsidehistorical@gmail.com or P.O. Box 194, Mardela Springs MD 21837; or phone 410-726-8047!
