POCOMOKE CITY, Md. (AP) — Leaders of a small, predominantly black town on Maryland’s Eastern Shore are defending their decision to fire the town’s first black police chief and call for healing racial tensions that have divided the community.
“You’re looking for answers. … I’ve been wanting to bust loose and say what I want to say, but I can’t,” Pocomoke City Mayor Bruce Morrison told representatives of a group called Citizens for a Better Pocomoke, which on Monday evening asked the mayor and council members to work with them to reinstate former police Chief Kelvin Sewell.
“This act has destabilized our community and now brought about division,” the Rev. Ronnie White of the House of Love Christian Center said.
Morrison, who is white, said he was willing to work with the group.

The most interesting item of news that I found at the meeting was when one of sewell followers made the statement that he shouldn't be fired because he got under the sheets with other women ( i heard of at least 5) one being on the council . Guess that is why she is so defensive of him.
ReplyDeleteThat Rev. Ronnie White is very rude and disrespectful. He sure is not a man of god > If he was he would not be doing the things he's doing and his wife is very racist she said to a young lady that was white you wouldn't understand your not black. Very racist people.
ReplyDeleteThe only act that has destabilized pocomoke is the behavior of the so called group for a better pocomoke. They should be embarrassed for the stuff they have done . Rev. Jenkins has helped bring this community together and this group is an embarrassment to our community. Everything rev. Jenkins has done is in vain they should be ashamed of themselves. I also heard that one of Sewell supporters threw him under the bus saying he was having an affair with another women. I guess the rumors are true about him and downing.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know why Downing is allowed to talk about what the ex chief has done but no one else on council is allowed to say anything? Kinda makes me wounder if she was not part of ex chiefs wrong doing . I guess what i seen from my home was true. I guess he thought sleeping with her would keep him from getting fired guess he was wrong. Why was Sewell there monday night?
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't there he was in las vegas on vacation
ReplyDeleteHow come the papers show him ther?
DeleteFirst of all. I want to thank you Joe Albero for posting these articles about Pocomoke. I know 2 of the councilman, 1 of the councilwomen and the mayor. I have known them for many years and know that they would never jeopardize their integrity or that of Pocomoke, because sewell would not fire 2 officers because they are black. sewell is a dishonest, 2 faced liar and adulterer. I would also like to know when this ronnie white and james jones became ordained ministers? I have known both of them for many years too, and they are not the pillars of the community that they are pretending to be.
ReplyDeleteI am sick of hearing sewell was the first black chief of police in Pocomoke. So what if he is black, crooked comes in many colors. We got rid of one crooked police chief here and he was white, but not one black person fought to have him reinstated.
So get over sewell being black and fired, he got what he deserved.
If he was white none of this would be a topic for discussion.
ReplyDeleteOr if the person firing him would have been black nobody would have said anything.
ReplyDeleteEdomites...smh
ReplyDelete10:59 It must be from the july 13 meeting cause he was not there i can promise you that .
ReplyDeleteChief Vernon Hope was black. Have ppl forgotten him? That was 30 years ago! How many towns on the shore had black police chiefs in the 80s? No way this is the racist community the liberal race-baiting pressers accuse it of being.
ReplyDeleteVernon Hope was never a police chief. He couldn't even write tickets because he was illiterate. Not only that, he was an adulterer and liar.
ReplyDeleteSo is our ex cheif
DeleteSounds like he and Sewell have a lot in common...just sayin
ReplyDeleteI was also surprised to hear people talking about Seawell being under the covers, that lady seemed to know quite a bit at the counsel meeting. I think that downing is trying to keep her area happy knowing she support him, every meeting she stand up and lets us know she supports seawell, now you have to wonder why she support him when the other fore say fire him, but sounds like she being used. Guess that's why we haven't seen any drug arrest in town, to busy in the sheets... I talked to one of the pocomke officers other day, they seem happy Seawell gone..i was surprised to hear they hoping Sterner is hired as new chief, seems he taken time to meet with each one and here there concerns, that's a sign of a good leader, Hopefully the city mayor will see this and set things in motion to hire him as our chief of police.
ReplyDeleteIf Seawell is so innocent he should send a affidavit from his "unpaid lawyer" and state that he allows the city to speak and reveal why they felt he had to go. Course once truth is exposed then he wont be such a hero..no way did the city just fire him without good reasons. a great place to learn all this stuff is have breakfast at Market Street Deli, its good food if you can keep it down while laughing at the stuff you hearing.
My whole life, we have been treated as lower than Caucasians when it comes to getting jobs,” Kelli Cropper, 42, said. She’s a teacher in Pocomoke City, about a three-hours southeast of Washington.
ReplyDelete“We want to know tonight, by whose authority was the chief fired?” the Rev. Ronnie White, pastor of House of Love Outreach Christian Center in Pocomoke City said.
George Tasker, a Caucasian city council member made things worse by coming out and saying to the crowd: “I’m just a mountain boy. I don’t know how to address y’all African American people.”
Afterward, resident Vanessa Jones, 56, said “Pocomoke City has always had a history of prejudice. It’s always been racial here, always. It’s supposed to be one of the friendliest towns on the Eastern Shore, and that is not true.”
As Vanessa Jones says, “Pocomoke City has always had a history of prejudice. It’s always been racial here, always. It’s supposed to be one of the friendliest towns on the Eastern Shore, and that is not true.” Yes, she is right, the blacks are the worst racist ones on Pocomoke City. The whole reason the firing of sewell is such a hullabaloo is because he is black and so are the ones who is fighting to get his job back. Wrong!!! If he is so innocent, (and the excuse of not firing 2 of his black officers is a bunch of shit) then let him have his attorney allow city hall to release why he was fired. But that will never happen, because sewell is no better than frank white was as chief of the Pocomoke Police Dept. Sewell puts on a good act and thats it.
ReplyDeleteAll you white people on here who keep posting derogatory, racist, untruths and slander... you seem awful racist. I can tell you - i examined writings, grammar behaviour for a living for many, many years and i know who you are. That's warning #1.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up, and i WILL out you, causing more than a law suit and strife against you, for MANY people who are fed up with your nonsense.
Yes, you definitely have a right to your own opinion. But please dont forget, some of you ARE law enforcement personnel/city officials. You MUST be aware of the laws protecting EVERYONE from the likes of you, who say things (derogatory, racist, untruths and slander, ETC) that CAN be used against you in a court of Law.
Hey "becky2" (not your real name lol), you're an idiot if I ever saw one! Chief Sewell (and his lawyer) DID give his reasons for why he was fired! It is morrison/blake/city council who are not releasing THEIR reasons for firing him! What the hell is wrong with you???? Damn you people are SO DISGUSTING! I hate ALL of you! You damn DEVILS is what you all are!! UGHH!!
