An indoor/outdoor sports complex to be located somewhere within the county has cleared the Maryland Stadium Authority by unanimous decision and now progresses to the state legislature for another approval.
Details of the project first emerged in January, although there had been some communication between Hat Trick consultants, the Texas-based firm with a hockey focus and Economic Development Director Bill Badger beforehand.
Hat Trick consultants have an ownership interest in a minor league hockey franchise, and would like to see a facility here that could house it or another hockey team, plus other events or sports teams. The Worcester County Commissioners added outdoor facilities to the proposal for what was originally an enclosed structure.

Hockey? Here? Don't know how that would fly.
ReplyDeleteSecond. Why does a company have to go through all this? Why can't they deal with the county only? Maryland stadium authority? To many people getting involved.
You would be surprised there are a lot of hockey fans in the Ocean city area. I could also see them trying to do lacrosse and in sure they will try to bring in events when it's not in use. This also will create jobs and is just a good sign of a company wants to come build a stadium in the county. I'm sure a lot of other counties woukd of gladly taken this.
ReplyDeleteRight on!
DeleteLove hockey. I'd be in line for season tickets.
ReplyDeleteQue up the line of people ready to find something to complain about
ReplyDeleteToo late 12:44 already started.
Delete12:44 isn't complaining. He's doubting hockey will be big locally. And he feels that the county and local town hosting this should be the only ones involved. Not the state. Sure seems like alot more money would stay closer to home that way.
DeleteA business franchise opening up on the Eastern Shore is good news...as long as it isn't on the taxpayers' dime.
ReplyDeleteonly problem is many people would have to drive through wicomico county to get there
ReplyDeleteEh hockey? Going to be a tough sell. I am sure there are some who are fond of the sport but it has sparse fans as is. Not too sure it would do well here on the shore. I hope it does though!
ReplyDeleteas always Salisbury misses again And you Wicomico useless pigs. The old mall should have been turned in to a Bigger venue or indoor out amphitheater or some type of concert stadium facility. The Civic Center bulldozed and turned into a high rise parking garage. At least then they could serve alcohol and have a profitable venue. To late now fools. and I see that lot is Still empty.. such a frigging joke
ReplyDeleteThey should be pushing professional soccer.
ReplyDeleteAs long as it isn't a basketball stadium. This, we do not need.
ReplyDelete543 is exactly right, it's sitting in front of our very eyes, it is a gold mine that nobody sees. can anyone see the forest.
ReplyDeleteIt can't be built without excessive county taxation and bonding. As usual, special interests are helped by low informed dupes.
ReplyDeleteOther businesses manage to construct their own stores and factories and offices, why can't sports teams?
