Rutherford steps in for Hogan at MML, touts impact so far

OCEAN CITY — When Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford took the stage to address the Maryland Municipal League on Tuesday night, he said he was there as a “backup” to Gov. Larry Hogan.

Originally scheduled to speak with the state’s municipal leaders, the governor had to cancel his appearance after announcing that he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a lymphatic system cancer, last week. On Wednesday, Hogan announced that he completed a five-day, 24-hour chemotherapy treatment and was back at work in Annapolis on Thursday.

Rutherford said that in talking with Hogan on the phone this week, the governor remained in “great spirits.”
