BALTIMORE - A little bit back, I wrote about the Upper Chesapeake Bay making Bassmaster’s 100 Best Bass Lakes . The Upper Bay snatched spot 57 on the list, its highest ranking since the magazine started its rankings in 2012.
What I didn’t write about is something that gives me pause and makes me wonder how long the Bay will remain on the list. One of the criteria used in creating the list is the health of the fishery. Right now, that part of the Bay is in good shape.
The problem though, lies upstream or in this case, up river. The Susquehanna River made Bassmaster’s initial list of 100 Best Bass Lakes back in 2012. Since then, it’s been a no show. The folks who live along and fish the river north of the Mason Dixon Line will tell you it’s not what it used to be.
