OCEAN CITY — (July 31, 2015) Ocean City may have hit peak supermarket intrigue - which may not be much, but it’s something compared to how much press grocery stores usually get.
The mostly defunct Ocean Plaza Mall on 94th Street and its anchor store, Superfresh, are almost guaranteed a major shakeup in the coming months as Superfresh’s parent company, A&P, proceeds with its bankruptcy case and sale of stores to ACME Markets.
At the same time, the underused mall’s owner, Continental Realty, is looking at a renewed push toward redevelopment of the site, which was previously blocked by Superfresh’s iron-clad lease of the facility.
Last week, the 156-year old Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, better known as A&P, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, meaning that it will be going through a court-supervised restructuring in order to alleviate the company’s mounting debt.
As part of the move, A&P will be closing 25 supermarkets and selling off another 120, according to industry reports.

Please either close or remodel that location. It's about the most expensive worst run grocery store around.
ReplyDeleteWe could sure use an Acme here in Salisbury. All we have is Giant or Foodlion and Food Lion was just bought out by Giant. So we now have no choice and Giant and Food Lion have a monopoly.
ReplyDeleteThank God!!! That place is a poorly run FILTHY hole !!
ReplyDelete12:23, we have Save A Lot and Wal Mart also in Salisbury.
ReplyDelete12:23 like I said, only Food Lion and Giant. Nothing quality at all.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories of delivering to that store back in the day.
ReplyDeleteIt would so nice to have a Trader Joe's or Whole foods here
ReplyDeleteThat store is far cleaner and better stocked than Walmart and you pay higher prices at all beach locations including food Lion so try again.
ReplyDeleteWon't fly 5:24-The specialty grocery store in Dagsboro is on the verge of closing if it has not already done so.
ReplyDeleteThat super fresh is horrendous. Albertsons should put a ton of money into the location.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't go back in the Salisbury Save a lot if they gave me free food. That store has got to be the worse grocery store on the Eastern Shore.
