A Viewer Writes: SPEED

Did I miss something important in Salisbury? Why is the speed limit 25 sign flashing in front of Bennett and Parkside at 4pm in the middle of July?

  1. Summer activities or summer school maybe????

    Maybe being fixed or tested????

Maybe they are trying to get you to slow down???

  2. Its for the kids.

You know, the summer school kids so they can leave the speed cameras on.

  3. That's been going on at least since the lousy speed cameras were installed.

  4. ONLY to collect money.. That's the only reason the cameras are there..

  5. It was in force long before the cameras were installed. To remind people, regardless of their stance on speed cameras, the area is normally a 30 mph zone and the cameras note those at or exceeding 42mph, which is 12 mph over the speed limit. Going 12 mph over the speed limit on a 55 mph highway is 67 mph, which will get you a ticket, if you're caught.
Are you saying that you don't like being caught? Too bad. Slow down and you won't have a problem.

  6. As a general rule, I avoid Salisbury but more specifically, I avoid all areas that have school zones. Either use side streets or just don't patronize businesses in those areas.

  7. It's the blinking sign on the cash register.

Mebbe the mayor could shift some of the speed camera windfall to the privately financed, 100%, all the way, no government bucks involved ever skatepark he's enraptured about.

  8. because that is like a neon open for business sign. Slow down so you do not get a picture ticket.

  9. All city proceeds from the speed cameras must be spent on law enforcement. Some of the more recent purchases were officer radios, ballistic vests and body cameras.

    1. We already pay enough taxes that should pay for this. Make vests up to officers to buy like their lights for their cruisers. I say cruisers cause that's what they are. For officers to cruise around in. Same with cameras. They get enough for free. A body cam is less then $100. It's worth it to a cop for their protection. Radios should be 100% agency.

  11. I need to get a copy of the law that supports these phony camera traps to see what it actually reads about "school zones." This is a major money maker and everyone knows it. I do not advocate speeding!!

    1. Maybe you should attend summer school with your child and learn how to express yourself?

  13. Probably the blinking 25 is on an automatic timer. In any case the speed limit is 30 and you have 12 miles over before getting the ticket so if you hold it to 40 you will get through fine as far as the camera is concerned. The more important thing than your speed is using good judgement and not running over anybody.

  14. The speed limit is lower when the lights are flashing. School's out, but the need to make money hasn't stopped.

This discussion is about when the camera will give you a ticket. I have no evidence or proof the speed camera adjusts lower for the blinking 25. Do you?

  16. I would feel much better if they painted a face on the cameras partially covered by a mask an then add two arms with one hand holding a gun. If you
re going to rob me, at least make it seem realistic!!

  17. Don't worry about it. Ignore the flashing light. Just drive like you normally do. And smile while you do it. You never know.....
