Having to make money we lose our health, and then to restore our health we lose our money... We live as if we are never going to die, and we die as if we never lived...
If you learn to be content with less and understand that life isn't about 'things', but about relationships, you just might get off the treadmill and find a real life. We did. We're out of debt, we live within our means, and we have a nice little home in Mayberry, USA. Was it worth it? You bet.
When I turned 34, I had to make the decision of leaving the career, and company, I loved... or retire. I chose the latter, and haven't regretted it one bit. I loved my job, and put a lot of hours in, even though I didn't personally need to, I wanted to. I enjoyed managing over 100 people, training them, engaging with multiple nationalities, multiple languages. But, when you look at your grandfather, your father, other people caught in the rat wheel of life, and you have a way out... YOU TAKE IT.
All these things are CHOICES people make for themselves. Nobody has a gun to your head FORCING you to sit in an hour of traffic, or work at a job that underpays you. Nobody made you finance your car when you could have SAVED enough over time to pay for it in cash. Take control of your own life and reject NORMAL if it's not what you really want.
The description of the American Dream?
