Cardin Statement on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month 2015

BALTIMORE – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) issued the following statement recognizing June as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month. This Saturday, June 13, marks the 40th Celebration of Pride in the Nation’s Capital. Baltimore Pride celebrates its 40th anniversary later this summer.

“For more than four decades, June has been a month of great significance for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community across the United States. This June should be just as momentous as we await a decision from the Supreme Court in the case ofObergefell v. Hodges. In 2015, 70 percent of Americans live in a state where loving, same-sex couples can enjoy all the legal protections of marriage. I expect that number to grow quickly, as the Supreme Court recognizes that equality is an inherent American value that should not be denied or taken away from any American person. Love is love.

“This month, we especially celebrate and honor the people of the LGBT community who have enriched the United States and made us a stronger nation. In every field, LGBT Americans have helped drive the innovation and bold ideas that make America exceptional. They have stood sentry in our military, made scientific advances, made all of America laugh and cry, and so much more. Far too often, these heroes and pioneers were forced to hide their real self to the world. But today, thankfully, those times are dissipating, and all Americans – gay and straight – can take pride in their exceptionalism and every day victories.

“As we celebrate LGBT Pride Month, it is important that the United States continues as an example and advocate for LGBT individuals across the world. I applaud President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry for appointing Randy Berry as the first-ever Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBTI Persons. As Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I look forward to working with Special Envoy Berry to ensure the United States remains committed to protecting the rights of LGBT individuals the world-over in the face of intolerance and bigotry.”

When is the "marriage is between a man and woman" pride day/month?
Do we not deserve a parade?
If it weren't for us "normal" folk, you would not exist.

  4. We are now allowing sick, perverted, immoral people to openly portray them selves with pride. Disgusting and totally unnatural! This is like portraying Charlie Manson as being a kind, caring, good humane person!
