If Worcester County can refuse to be held hostage by the Board of Education, then there is absolutely NO REASON on earth why Wicomico County can''t stand up to the Board of Education and not give in to all their demands. Taxpayers are sick to death of the BOE.
They could have still cut more but the employees and dept heads never share everything to the commissioners. I am glad they stood firm on the BOE--support the teachers just not the BOE as they can re-prioritize and get the teachers raises if they want too
Metricic, what a joke! HE NEVER kept his word on the Ocean City Council, and now all the residences can feel the pain. He promised to deal with the 911 center, then the tax differential, well, how's it working for ya? He is a lot of hot air, and Church, well at least he kisses you first.
Easy to raise taxes in an off election year, everyone will forget by the next one. They stood up to the teachers, but still didn't cut the other areas they could. BTW, the vast increases in the Sheriffs budget to have uniformed deputies in all the schools cost a fortune, and serves to do nothing but a "feel good", still the schools reap the benefit. How many areas can the tax base increase. It's gonna crash folks, just watch. Oh, and I love their (Commissioners) justification of the increase "tuff economic times", HELLO folks, lets raise the income and real estate tax! Only the unemployed benefit by this insane decision.
What did Mitricic do wrong? At least he tried to get things done. He tried to get the commissioner meeting on video tape (none of their meetings are recorded or aired for anyone to see), he tried to get money back for OC, he tried to get them to make more cuts. But no one on that panel cares about the financial status of OC other than him. OC is so big compared to the rest of the county but he is the only commissioner from there.

I agree with you Ted, that's why we need Republicans on the County Commissioners.

ReplyDeleteI am sure the top 10 administrators will share in the teachers' pain
ReplyDeleteYes we are sick to death with the BOE.
ReplyDelete"...the budget, which includes a 40-percent income tax increase and a 6.5-cent property tax hike."
ReplyDeleteThey increased taxes even without the teacher pay increase. Imagine what the increase would have been if they gave in to the BOE?
$$$$$ abutts taxes going up $$$$$
