Georgetown, DE – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash west of Georgetown which has resulted in the death of a Seaford man.
The Preliminary investigation has revealed the crash occurred on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at approximately 1:10 p.m. on County Seat Highway (US 9) east of Old Furnace Road (CR46) approximately two miles west of Georgetown, as a 42 year old male of Seaford was operating a 2001 Dodge Dakota. He was traveling west bound on County Seat Highway east of Old Furnace Road and for unknown reasons, exited the north edge of the road striking several privately owned signs, a driveway culvert and ultimately into a deep water filled tax ditch with its front center of the vehicle. The operator, who was unrestrained, suffered significant injuries related to the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
County Seat Highway (US 9) was closed in both directions for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. The identity of the operator is pending the notification of the next of kin.
