  2. that explains why it is so easy to accepted into college when more than half the freshmen need remedial math and English!

  3. That's very typical of Congo Tech!!

  5. 11%----5 year graduation rate...and that's being generous

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's why a degree from that college is worthless.
Its more of a place to say you're "going to school" so you can yank down a continuing stream of student loans that you never intend to pay back.
    Proof? 11% (!) 5 year grad rate.

  7. just another place for them to hang out while on the dool. seems we pay no matter what their station in life may be. projects school prison etc.

  8. Where are you get your data from 11% is not accurate. The graduation rate not ideal but is 22% for 4 year so its not likely that 5 year is 11%. 1:36 PM what do you mean by congo text. Are you referring to the African students that attend? Are you saying that if your African you live in the Jungle? I'm really don't know why these ignorant racist comments don't get moderated out. Further how many of those with negative comments have college degrees are went to college. Humans make these forms and Humans make mistakes. But im sure you all are perfect. UMES is very respected in the HBCU community so please check your facts and don't say any thing behind the veil of anonymity that you wouldn't say in real life

    1. Obviously an employee of UMES. We all know what UMES is and a academic university it is not. What ever the percentage 11 or 22 still a disgrace. With my taxes footing the bill for over 85 percent (FACT) you would expect more from college students and faculty.

    2. Do you have a college degree ? 22% I agree is not great but far from the lowest amongst university of Maryland system schools ...who paid for your degree at. Payers ?? Or do you have one ??

    3. Whether someone else has a degree is an idiotic statement. Tax payers are having to finance these worthless "great society" children.

    4. Respected in the "HBCU community" (whatever that means) and respected among colleges in general, are two different things entirely.

When I went to SU (back when it was known as SSC) the difference in funding, campus amenities, equipment and facilities was quite striking, as I discovered on a visit down there for a visit. UMES was spacious, modern, beautifully landscaped and lavishly stocked with the latest, most advanced laboratory and computer equipment, in large, comfortable classrooms fully equipped with every amenity, and attractive, almost luxurious lounge, dining and break facilities. And the couple of dorms I toured were, in every way, superior to those I stayed in at SSC, which were Manokin and Nanticoke if I recall correctly.

Quite a contrast with SSC. This was before all the new buildings and remodeling over the past couple decades.

I was so perplexed at the disparity, I asked several sources why this might be; it wasn't like UMES was known for being an Engineering, medical or technical school, nor was it some elite "honors" type university. That's where you went if you wanted a degree in "Fashion Marketing" or "African American Studies", neither of which struck me as particularly challenging or useful degrees.

The admissions aide there proudly informed me the enormous difference in expenditure on the two colleges was because "African Americans deserved it because of prejudice."

Back at SSC, I was told by several others that it was simply because UMES was "for blacks" and they would riot if they didn't get the best of everything. It wasn't just that they had to have better than what we had, we had to obviously have worse than theirs, otherwise they'd claim it was "prejudice" or "racism".

I failed to make the connection there, as to how this was right or necessary, and certainly not even "separate but equal" if that was what they wanted.

  9. This isn't a typo. It's spelling a word by the way the way it sounds.

    1. Sure your are..sure sure..bit most people don't count the two figures to the right of the decimal...of course you wouldn't have learned that at UMES.

  12. Examen is actually a word. It has a couple meanings; one of which is "a serious examination and judgment of something (such as a writer's work)." However, it is more commonly used as a look at or a critique of one's own conscience.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But it's a noun, not a verb, and makes no sense in the context. It's a misspelling, and if "examen" was part of the spellcheck lexicon, it wouldn't have flagged it as incorrect, either.

  13. 3:57, I knew how to spell "examine" in the third grade. I'm now 61 and still remember how. But, then again, I'm White.

  14. It's very easy to search for an institution's graduation rate (particularly the 6-year rate, which is a common tracking timeframe for higher education). UMES' rate is 32%, which is appallingly low. It's not the lowest of the public institutions in Maryland, but it's pretty close.

  15. Dear 5:12
It's obvious what's going on in this country. It has turned communist or socialist , of course with your help.
    But the solution is in progress , it's called a few different things , 223 , 556 , 30/06 , 12 ga, 45 , 9 mm , and so many more.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 5:12, you are correct that "examen" is a word. However, it is NOT A VERB as used on the application in the phrase "to examen." Examen is a noun meaning a critical study.

  18. I taught their for 10 years while teaching at SU as well. The difference in the expectations and knowledge level was so profound that I finally resigned from UMES. they are not preparing their students for the real world. UMES is a total sham.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 3:57 the UMES degrees are not worth the paper they are printed on, just ask any employer. The campus is a school for the "Jungle" people. I like that it was called Congo College, that should be its new name. If the students that attend there had to compete at a real college they wouldn't even get in. Listening to the conversations in the halls, it is a wonder they can even find their classes, since they can't speak english!

Now we know the truth. lmclain is an uneducated, cop hating, high school drop out. No wonder you hate cops so much.

To stupid to understand anything about college.

So you got arrested and you couldn't get into college.

    2) "They" not "they."

    Good think you resigned.

  27. The Physical Therapy Department Director retired and it took him a year for the staff to work on the package to get it to go through because the staff was clueless.

He had to leave because he was tired of being told that he had to pass minorities after they failed out and and went to the President of the college to complain. He kind of laughed and was forced to let them back in knowing they may "pass" his program, but they wouldn't pass state and national exams.

I say they won't pass real life exams.

    "Good think you resigned."

See how easy it is to make a mistake?

People are not perfect. I have found myself spelling something wrong. I know the difference between their, they're and there yet my fingers sometimes just type the wrong letters. I hope you are not trying to make yourself seem more important in life by putting others down. I doubt you are perfect.

  29. Applications for colleges, businesses and other institutions should be free of spelling errors. It is not a high bar.

  30. 9:46...you don't pay much attention, huh?
I have NO criminal record (a dozen cops, or more, have combed every possible source looking for some dirt on me. Guess what? Zilch.
I'll bet my IQ is higher than yours. I have a college degree, too.
And I don't hate cops. Because I criticize them and their over-the-top aggressive and trigger happy behavior doesn't mean I hate them.
When police kill unarmed people because they are "afraid" or gang beat a smart mouth teenager into a coma, or assault people in handcuffs, or get caught running drugs, its ME who is the bad guy?
Looks like ALL your denigrating assumptions were 100% wrong.
THAT makes YOU look stupid, not me.
Argue the facts, bozo. And man up.
    Sign your name, sissy.
