REXEL - Electrical Supplies, RT 13, Delmar, MD - CLOSED

Good morning Joe.

I cannot believe I am writing to report this - as I am astonished. I am in the electrical business and I frequently visit the closest electrical supplier. This morning - I decided to slip into Rexel to purchase some electrical supplies - and guess what - their outdoor sign marquee has been stripped, the building signs have been removed, their office showroom cleaned out, and there are several commercial dumpsters around the perimeter full of debris. I had no advance warnings about their closure.

I guess this building can also be added to the hordes of abandoned warehouses in and around Salisbury as another one bites the dust.

  1. They closed their Salisbury warehouse and consolidated everything to their Easton location.

  2. 9:47 - either way, they got out of SBY/Wicomico!

Thanks Ricky and Jimmy! One down and one to go!

  3. Horner Honda is closing as well...

  4. There are very few building permits being issued in Wicomico Co. There are very few jobs available and it's a high crime area. They surely can not stay in business here if they have no business here.

  5. Salisbury's disease is spreading. Schools and businesses are screwed.

  6. Before too long, Easton will be bigger than Salisbury. They already have more choice in shopping and supermarkets than Salisbury and they have a lower population. Of course all the well to do and the five and dime millionaires live there.

  7. I have a feeling that there may be one or more other electrical suppliers soon to shut down also. Business is not what it used to be because of all the regulatory barriers. It is easier to go out of business rather than to put up with the aggravation of our police state. I look for others to vacate very soon.

  8. I swear, our local economy gets worse and worse with each passing day.

  9. Yet our school officials are pandering for more and more money. Maybe they should take a glimpse of themselves in the mirror as they are the primary culprits for the businesses leaving.

  10. Yeah, I heard Bud Horner is retiring and closing up shop in June.

    1. Bud Horner is closing up? Is this for real?

  11. Not surprising. Rexel had been circling the drain ever since they moved from there old Salisbury location a few years back. (Where Culiquip is now) They would hardly carry anything in stock besides the bare basic's. I could go to Lowes and have a better chance of getting what I needed.

  12. I believe this location is in Delmar, not Salisbury.

  13. I wonder how much rent that building was.

  14. As a lifelong Wicomico resident, I have never seen anything like this before. Business after business folding. On supplier closes and a new Dunkin Donuts opens in its place. There is something wrong Wicomico's new employment equation.

  15. Referring to 5:04 Poster that wonders how much the rent was.

Whatever Rexel was paying, I am sure it was to much for the amount of revenue they were generating. This has been an extremely harsh winter, and quite honestly I am surprised that United Electric Supply hasn't shut their doors. Them and a few others are holding on by a thin string.

  16. This isn't just a local issue. The entire Eastern Shore of Md and Virginia has closure issues. If the Accomack arsonists had insisted that the vacant buildings that they burned down NEEDED BURNING and stood by that a lot would have been handled differently. Were it I on trial,I would have demanded national attention to the countless eyesores and hazardous dilapidated structures in Accomack county.True,it was arson by definition, but who in the heck did not know the county looked like a ghetto? They were heroes in my book. They were just caught too soon.

  17. There are hordes of vacant warehouses all around Salisbury. They are virtually on every street corner - no joke. From northern Salisbury through the backwoods of the Northwood Industrial Park there are vacant warehouses to numerous to count. Signs are everywhere, AVAILABLE, FOR LEASE, SALE, MAKE OFFER.
