McDonald's closing Hundreds of Restaurants

NEW YORK (AP) — McDonald’s plans to unwrap a plan next month that it says will help turn around sales declines around the world.

CEO Steve Easterbrook, who stepped into the role just last month, said Wednesday the company will share “initial details” of the plan May 4.

“I think there is a hunger and an interest in our business to embrace change,” Easterbrook said during a conference call. While McDonald’s has been “phenomenally successful” for decades, he said that has also made the company conservative.

The world’s biggest hamburger chain said global sales declined 2.3 percent at established locations during the first three months of the year, with results for April expected to be negative as well. The drop included a 2.6 percent drop in the U.S., where people are increasingly heading to places that market their food as more wholesome.

  2. We go to McD's a few times a month-mostly for coffee and dessert after our dinner. Last night we did stop in the new McD's by the Berlin Home Depot and got a few sandwiches and fries. Food was hot and freshly made, neatly packaged and staff was darling.
What I dislike most about McD's is their new building designs-Ugh! It's just not McDonald's!
They look like funeral homes with their dreary colors and uninspiring architecture.

  3. I remember reading somewhere, that the best economics indicator is sales at fast food places. When people start cutting that out of their budget, times really are bad.
I don't believe for a second that people are shifting towards healthier foods. I think that's part of McD's problem. If they'd stuck with the horse (e.g., good, cheap fries in saturated fat) that was winning the race, they wouldn't be having such a tough time.
Chipotle's and Taco Bell aren't healthier, they're cheaper.

    1. Chipotle is significantly more expensive than McDonalds. Taco Bell does have healthier choices, if you watch what you order.

  4. The food has went way down hill. If they were to bring back the old burgers and fries it would be great. I loved it when they had good beef and the french fries were full of real grease. I just go to five guys for a real burger
