Mayor Ireton And City Council Continue To Disrespect Taxpayers And Instead Favor Developers

Mr Ireton,

Here are some pics from 5am today. This is the second time this week that they have shown up way before 7am. Two days ago it was 4:45am when they got here.

Now, I know that this isnt high on the priorities list, but this community has suffered enough at the hands of these contractors. The council says to contact the administration about enforcement, so here I am contacting you. The police department has been to this site more than a dozen times and yet the contractor still operates unimpeded to do what he wants. Laws are laws and they MUST be enforced.

Will you PLEASE try and help fix this problem????

Police responded at 5:31 AM and witnessed no noise. Noise ordnance is being updated at council level. Thanks for contacting me.

I'm sorry, Roger. Let's get the law changed and hope it gets better.

Publishers Notes: You should know that the City has been dragging their feet on this matter for more than six weeks now. It has been in the hands of the City Attorney for at least that long. It took the Council all of 20 minutes to agree they need a new ordinance and now it has been in the Attorneys hands for six weeks and the contractor continues to completely disregard the law. I tried to reach Mr. Gillis this morning on this matter but was told he will be out until the 27th of this month.

  1. Joe,

I find it hypercritical of you, to on one hand complain about how business unfriendly the state of Maryland is and on the other hand, use those same business unfriendly policies to shut an enterprise down.

  3. 10:21 Sand Box John,

You can't be serious, can you?

Did you actually READ that they started around 4:30 AM each day?

Look, maybe the local Bars on the Plaza should stay open until 4:30 AM and to hell with the LAW, right?

Even the current laws in place are being ignored.

  5. Sounds to me like the council has done their part PARTIALLY, but that the city attorney (Tilghman) is protecting the contractor by taking so long to produce such a simple document.

  6. Typical ireton. Drags his feet on everything unless a party is involved. Look how he's dragged his feet since 2010 on the county city fire dept mess.
I think what Sby residents need to do is to glue a bar stool to his ass. Maybe if he feels like he's at a party he will get things done in a more timely fashion.

  7. It ultimately falls in the Mayors lap if nobody else will address it. All of them just keep passing the buck back and forth. The ordinance is in effect regardless of what the city council is doing with a new one. Theyve all said it is a misdemeanor offense to violate the ordinance, but nobody gets cited. This all started on January 10th with the first complaint about the noise. Nothing has been done, other than cops coming and telling them to wrap up well past the stated stop time of 6pm.
If ANYONE told me that Gillis wasnt being protected by the slow actions of the city, Id call you a potty mouth liar.

FYI, The contractors building the Metrorail line between Falls Church and Ashburn Virginia have been working 24/7 for the last 6 years on that project.
