JEREMIAH TOWNSEND CONVICTED AND SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER 2nd DEGREE AND HANDGUN OFFENSE

On April 17, 2015, Jeremiah Townsend, age 19, of Salisbury, Maryland was convicted of Attempted Murder 2nd Degree and Use of a Handgun in the Commission of a Violent Crime. The charges against Townsend arose out of an incident that occurred of January 21, 2014, in the area of Hammond Street, Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland. Townsend and others were in a home in the area playing dice. Townsend and the victim became involved in a verbal altercation and Townsend shot the victim in the abdomen area. The victim was transported to PRMC where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Townsend was sentenced in the Wicomico County Circuit Court to twenty (20) years active incarceration on Attempted Murder 2nd Degree. Townsend was also sentenced to twenty (20) years suspended on the firearm offense; that sentence is to be served consecutive to the Attempted Murder. Townsend was placed on 3 years of supervised probation.

Townsend is currently serving an eight year sentence in Delaware on gun charges. Townsend will have to serve the eight years in Delaware prior to beginning his Maryland sentence.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Salisbury City Police, and investigating Officer, Dean Popovich for his work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Senior Assistant State’s Attorney, Kristen Schultz who prosecuted this case.
