Delaware Family's Vacation Nightmare: Teen Boys in Comas, Dad Can’t Move or Talk — Toxic Pesticide May Be Culprit

Two teenage boys are in comas and their dad can’t move or talk two weeks after falling ill during a family trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands, CNN reported Saturday, citing the family’s lawyer.

The presence of Methyl Bromide, a highly toxic pesticide, was detected in the Delaware family’s unit at the Sirenusa resort in St. John, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

  1. How awful. I keep on warning people to not go to these 3rd world supposed island paradises. While a US territory it's still 3rd world. Same goes for Jamaica and the rest of the popular destination islands. If someone made you go to a 3rd world country people would protest and only go kicking and screaming so it's amazing that people actually pay to go to these places to me. You are better off spending a bit more and going to one of the European islands/beach resorts like Monte Carlo, Isle of Capri in Italy or Ibiza Spain or one of the many Greek islands or seaside resorts. The extra you pay in money is worth it because you are actually getting something culturally out of it.

  6. Check all the labels you want; methyl bromide doesn't come in a bottle. And you can't buy it without a license.

  7. Every one of the above comments made me laugh! It could happen anywhere! We frequent St. John often and it is definitely not considered third world. Just stay in your house on the good old Eastern Shore and hide from the world.

  10. Most important question no one has asked. Did they have any problem with bugs during their stay?
