Committee Seeks Extending Pets On Boardwalk Period By A Month; Police Commission Not Willing To OK This Year

OCEAN CITY – A request to extend allowing dogs on the Boardwalk a month this year was denied by the Police Commission this week due to many concerns having to be addressed in too short of time.

The Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC) and its Boardwalk Committee recommended that the Town of Ocean City consider extending the period dogs are allowed on the Boardwalk up to the Thursday of Memorial Day weekend. The current City code allows dogs on the Boardwalk from Oct. 1 through April 30.

“We believe extending this period will increase the number of pedestrians on the Boardwalk and will not interfere with others. We see the increase in pet-friendly places competing for visitor dollars. We believe locals will appreciate this extra Boardwalk period for their pets, too,” the Boardwalk Committee recommended.

OCDC President Bob Givarz met with the Police Commission on Wednesday morning to discuss the request.

  1. Why does the police commission even have a say in this? How hard is it to do? Do they need special training to do a task as simple as this? This bs needs to stop.

  2. It would be so nice to have more time to take my dog to the boardwalk. I love taking her to watch how she brings so much joy to children and adults. I have to say that whenever I have been at the boardwalk, the dogs act much better than some of the people.

  3. Oh they will have to do a study and they'll have to do this and they will have to do that.... 11:10. Have you ever seen such a cluster of nitwits in your life. Remember how long it took they to pick a police chief. To stupid to do it themselves so they had to hire a company to narrow down finalists which basically means they are admitting they are a bunch of morons not capable of even picking a department head.
